I've gone from ~500 credits pending to ~1400 in a little over 3 days.... Something up with the server or WUs? Why the sudden backlog?
Understood, but this is a sudden drop in RAC when I was consistently (weekday and weekend) getting a RAC upwards of ~480 or higher for over a month... now I'm down to 375 in just a weeks time.
No noticable periodicity or other association I can see from the statistics.... No increase in errors on my computer... The bottom just fell out. If it wasn't coincidence/bad luck in being matched up with non-performing computers, I thought maybe something might be funny (funny "odd", if not funny "wrong") on the server end.
Just curious.
"No, I'm not a scientist... but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express."
I too noticed a big jump in my pending results. I have two theories 1) a lot of the regular contributers where away over the long July 4th weekend 2) a lot of new users signed up but lost interest before they completed their wus.
The server stats seem to imply a lot of the #2 going on.
I also noticed that my results included 12(!) WU's that were started seperately and never concluded during the final days of June. This was due to my attempt to learn Linux by using the Knoppix boot CD. The OS was Very Unstable on my machine.
On the plus side I did get a real taste of what a Linux box feels like. A very interesting Operating System - but Einstein had projected finishing times of 2 to 3 times longer than that of Windows XP.
When Orbit@home finally starts issuing work (as far as I know they will release only a Linux application to begin with...) I will probably suspend using Einstein until Mr. Tetsuji Maverick Rai gets his wish to re-compile the Einstein app (his optimised SETI app runs in half the time of the standard program) or someone "fixes" the Linux version so it is not reminicent of using MS Basic Interpreter. ;)
It looks as if things are a little slow these days.....we have about 3600CS in the hopper and this is the largest backlog for us ever. Intresting.....maybe the Servers etc. are working to rule or went on holidays too!
On a slightly different topic...yes, it would be nice to have an updated Linux version as the previous poster suggests.
There are a number of threads on the Crunchers corner that have links in them to places where you can get various versions.
I have some of the links in the SETI@Home FAQ in the Wiki that also have links too ... I have a preliminary "How-To" Guide on how to install it. My plan is to "proof" that guide by doing EXACTLY what it says ... then fix the bad things that happen when I do that ... at the same time I hope to capture screen shots to document it ...
{edit}
Pending is 679 ...
Also have over 40 work units in-flight ... so, that is not that bad ... about 10 total returned and pending.
over 6,700 peresently - and climbing. there seems to be some validation problem as it is usually around the 4,500-5,000 mark - and it started to go up a couple of days ago.
