CPU type AuthenticAMD

Number of CPUs 1
Operating System Microsoft Windows 2000
Professional Edition, Service Pack 4, (05.00.2195.00)

Per your account, Windows is only telling Boinc it has one processor.

You are on the correct service pack. I think I would check the BOIS again, to make sure it's turned on to use both.

Thanks, I looked through the BIOS again but could find no way to turn on or off the dual-core. The motherboard maker (ASUS A8V Deluxe) does claim dual core support with this (the latest) BIOS version. The BIOS opening page does report a dual core athlon, but a report might not be the same as a functioning dual core.

I'm running an AMD 3800 X2 on the same mobo, ASUS A8V Deluxe, with Xandros Linux Business Version V3 and it sees both processors just fine. I'm not sure what ver Bios it has. I just received it this past Thursday from Monarchcomputer. They installed the cpu and made sure the bios was upto date.

[Edit] In my origional post I said I was running Windows XP64, my mistake. On this setup I'm running Xandros linux.
Go to the following link and download their free home version of Everest. It will tell you everything about your motherboard and hardware you want to know.

Pirate,

Thanks. I got mine yesterday from Monarch.

You are right. I need to dump Win2000 for this 64-bit cpu & get XP64. Unless I can get Linux running.

I just updated my earlier

I just updated my earlier post. I'm acutally using Xandros Linux on the ASUS A8V Deluxe. XP64 should work for you. I am using XP64 (Yea, I'm sure which OS I'm running this time) on a Tyan S2895 Thunder K8WE with a pair of dual core Otperon 275's and XP sees all 4 processors. You said you got yours from Monarch also so it should be setup right.

ADDMP,

If you have an older Motherboard, it may not be able to use the dual-core capabilities. Try going to the mobo manufacturer's website - support - downloads and see if there is a BIOS update for your model, and maybe they'll have details listed about dual-core compatibility.

Respects,

Michael

Thanks. I am using an ASUS A8V Deluxe with the latest BIOS. It is newly-purchased but not the latest technology. (I needed many old PCI slots.) ASUS CLAIMS dual-core support with this BIOS & this cpu.

Thanks,

ADDMP,

My apologies to you. I've been covering so many threads for so many hours that I neglected to notice your earlier post, where you said that your PC was new.

ASUS has a fine rep for stable, no-nonsense mobos. While Via used to have a questionable rep as a chipset supplier who took many BIOS updates to get things stable (my first build was an ASUS A7V333, just on the cusp), they have since shed the bad rep, and are among the best. ASUS' claim can be trusted.

Respects,

Michael

Hi!

Your computer 390864 is claiming a very low amount of credits. Please run the benchmark while the pc is idle and your pc will gain twice credits.
