Salut.
I wonder how it's possible to get smaller WUs.
I want to install BOINC on several Computers with some card, which is reseting the harddrive with every reboot, so I thought I could reduce the size of one work unit, which initially took about 12 hours, to one taking about 1 hour to finish, but the promising "Connect to network about every ..."-option didn't work the way I hoped it would. After I changed 0.1 days to 0.01 days, the work takes projected 20 hour and more...
Can anybody explain to me how I could get smaller units?
Thx in advance.

There is no way to do so at present; regardless of the connect-to-network setting, you will receive at least one task when requesting work. The WUs for the S5R2 run take much longer than previous ones. For the S5R1 run the probability of issuing smaller tasks to slower computers was made higher than ‘pure chance’; a similiar feature may be implemented later in this run. (We also expect faster versions of the app to be released as debugging proceeds.)

As long as we are all running S5R2 results, which don't use any CPU optimization options (SSE,SSE2 etc.) you won't have any results that run less than the estimated 20 hours and run for considerably longer.
Please check this thread.

Ok, thank you, but can I ensure getting only a single WU with the 0.1 days-setting?
With less than that (0.004, i think) I suddenly got two of them. :-o

It should be noted that there are varying size results, so there are some that may take 30 or more hours and some that may take around 15 hours, like the result that took 53,259.06 seconds (14.79 hours) on your Sempron system. The completion time currently depends on how fast your computer is, how big the workunit is, and if you don't run a combination of AMD processors with any version of Windows. You don't have an AMD/Windows system, so you're ok in that regard, but as has been stated, even if you request 0.01 days, you'll still get at least one unit.

Hmm, thx. And what's the problem with windoze/amd systems?

The project team has indicated that there were some problems with the compilation of the application that seems to have had a profound impact on AMD/Windows systems... A person that has a much slower AMD processor than mine running on Linux can complete a larger credit result in less time than me... Last I saw, the developers are working on trying to figure out how to fix it...
