idea's why? ive checked the usual suspects and cant find any corolation between what i may have been doing at the time and what caused the 0's...

too many exit 0's

Might want to adjust your title from exist to exits, if this board lets you.

I notice that a later restart complains of no checkpoint file and says it is starting from scratch.

That sounds a little like file locking trouble, so maybe:

--side effect of Antivirus or Firewall program?
--collision with a backup process?
--conflict with something being done in another application (Windows explorer...)

If you have not already done so, I reboot the system if practical.

Not claiming to offer expert advice.

thanks, didnt catch that in

Message 99916 in response to message 99915

thanks, didnt catch that in time to edit, however it looks like a mod did it for me (thanks to who ever it was :) )

ive got avira for antivirus and comodo for firewall, i double checked and i have boinc as an exception for them both still.

i do off line backups with clonezilla (full images) as in all these years i still havent found an opensource backup alternative that i really liked, (really, that could restore a system directly from cd's so far clonezilla meets that need) .

hmm, the software conflict may actually be it, firefox tends to not like flash so much and it locks up every so often. i didnt stop to think that that could / would affect other processes :: face palm :: my bad. guess ill have to put boinc to sleep when im doing any thing flash intensive.

though the missing checkpoint file is a bit of a concern since i have boinc excluded in avira and comodo (unless i did it wrong! )

Updating to a slightly newer

Message 99917 in response to message 99916

Updating to a slightly newer version of BOINC wouldn't be amiss. Even if you want to stay in 6.6 land, the latest of that one is 6.6.38, not the .20 nor .28 you run. .28 is even a development version only, it was never released.

P.S: for the moderator editing the title, it isn't 'to', but 'too' instead. As in "too many exit 0's".

I suppose you did exclude the BOINC data directory (full tree). ;-)

not better, but not worse either :) i discovered "desktopzoom" not too long ago, lovely little app that can be popped on to a usb key or installed. can do text to speach however i find that part of it lacking, im guessing because of the portable nature and the more than likely extensive programing needed. but other wise its a wonderfull little gem :)

im hoping some day some one will take up an open source TTS for windows.
