I have just joined "The Family" but have a question.
Can anyone tell me why my old laptop will crunch a unit in 4 hours but my twin processor server in 27 hours?

My 2.5 GHz laptop needs between 14 and 22 hours, but it does nothing else. What has your server to do besides BOINC?
Regarding the 4 hours: did your laptop use them or was it estimated to be finished in 4 hours? There are no (finished) entries in your task list (and no credits either).

Is this really a two processor server? Lokks more like a single CPU Pentium 4 with hyperthreading enabled = two E@H processes running concurrently on a single CPU.

The laptop hasn't finished a unit yet but is 93% at 5hrs 20 mins. The server which is running nothing else but Boinc (checked in task manager) is 96% at 23hrs 20 mins. Very strange, but I have never ran windows server 2000 so guess its something I haven't setup correctly.

The laptop hasn't finished a unit yet but is 93% at 5hrs 20 mins.
Your laptop has actually finished 6 tasks ranging from just under 6 hours up to 7.5 hours. Go to your account page on the website and follow the links to your computers and their list of tasks.

Your P4 host has completed two results - around 26 - 27 hours. You should take a look at all the tasks that are assigned to that machine. You have so many that some will almost certainly run beyound the deadline. I imagine that the tasks on that machine are already running in high priority mode. You should consider aborting some tasks that wont get to start before the deadline is reached. Have you set a big cache size in your preferences? If so you should consider reducing it quite a bit so as not to get so many tasks on that host.

It's not really strange at all. As Bikeman mentioned, your server is probably a netburst architecture P4 which is hyperthreaded - ie 2 virtual cores and not two physical cores. Your laptop is a Core2 Duo which is a much superior architecture. It is unlikely that your server is misconfigured. The times you are seeing are pretty much what you would expect for a HT netburst P4. That architecture is very slow for number crunching. The C2D times are what you would expect for that much superior architecture. As the machine is a laptop you will need to be careful about heat.
I have aborted most of the units and reduced the cache size.
