I don't think you have grasped the meaning of my post, Ananas got it (post 87212), those few tasks done on the old computer, have just as much meaning to me as the many units done on the new computer.

edit] Sorry not answered ealier but ISP has been off for nearly 30 hrs

Read through Alinator's post 87351. The original idea was that credit would be based upon a constant value. You cannot have a "variable constant", only a variable which has a current value and which also may have past and future values.

As for what happens with the credit of the theoretical "old computer" in your case, there are three possibilities...

  • *If the median system remains constant, then tasks performed then are equal to tasks performed now (on that same system).
*If the median system increases, tasks performed then are worth more than tasks performed now (on that same system).
*If the median system decreases, tasks performed then are worth less than tasks performed now (on that same system).

The odds of the last option happening are, as they say, slim to none.

Just because you don't have that system running, you should not be ignoring those that may still have an equivalent system running.

Hi Fellow's
I have enjoyed your comments
Ive been with E@H from 2005 and just run this project
It has run 24/7 most of the time bar for cock ups on my part
on a laptop This is number 2 last one KAPUT
For me the project& scientific pursuit is the main thing
Credits are for fun and toget US hot under the coller

dont like doughnuts will get my ginger nuts to dunk

tat tar for now
garry (gaz)

PS just got credit back for R4 claimed 66.23

granted 221.86 NOT BAD

Credits? Well, it's kind of fun to compare with others and "celebrate" milestones, so yes, I'd miss them if they were gone, but it's not something I can invest in emotionally.

The reason I asked archae about his viewpoint on who was the "vocal" group of people is that I'm genuinely interested in whether or not I am viewed as part of a "vocal minority" or not. My view is that I do not go protesting for any project to raise or lower their credit amounts, I only speak to what I see as flawed approaches to achieve the cross-project parity goal. As such, several people have declared that my discussions are "emotional". To an extent, perhaps they are, but the "emotion" in question would be equivalent to:

"HEY! Why can't you really look at this situation logically?!?!?!"

There seems to be a great amount of "herd mentality", particularly over at SETI. Various individuals seem to be absolutely convinced that doing something is better than doing nothing.

To me, those are the people who are far too emotionally invested, as they see the issue as something that is more important to "fix" than I do... Many times they will respond with extreme examples of how bad things could get. Each time I state that those scenarios haven't happened yet. It is almost like they carry signs like:

LOL... Good

LOL...

Good photo!

However, before things spiral off here;

One thing to keep in mind about the Plan is that Eric came up with it a means for addressing some specific issues with SAH only intially, and merely speculated that it might be useful for other projects to use in the context of CPP. How it got perceived as being the holy grail for all credit issues is the stuff legends are made of. ;-)

Unfortunately, where it does what he wanted for the limited set of hosts which all have the same basic capabilities, it can be shown that it does not work for the entire set of all possible hosts on a given project, and therefore does not work for CPP either.

After putting some considerable thought into it, at this point in the game, implementing something which doesn't address the root issue is most likely worse than doing nothing.

To fix the problem now means that some cows are going to get gored. That means the fix better be well thought out, justifiable, and defendable with something more substantial than a proclamation coming down from the mountain that all is now well. ;-)

Just thought I'd give an

Just thought I'd give an update. After crunching for 9 years and not considering credits as more than an after thought to the science, I once again was looking for a back up project while we were working our way though the S5R4 set and I stumbled on Milky Way; since I am really interested in space and projects that further our knowledge in that direction. As I mentioned in an earlier post they seem to have their problems and they grant an absurb amount of credit for the work that's done. With that said and less than 1 week in the project the result is.......

Nope!!!!! Getting an absurb amount of credit doesn't make me feel any better than knowing what I am doing here or CPDN for science. I guess I just wasn't cut out to be a "credit hoe". 50/50 isn't going to cut it, it's back to 100% Einstein.

To those that are only after the numbers I say "Go fer it!" If that's what it takes to have you interested enough to further science, that's great. I hope you have as much satisfaction as I do by doing it for the science aspect.

Now I think I will go and get myself a nice dozen of them HOT and Tasty Dunkin' Donuts.

Could you elaborate, for those of us not as much into SETI and AstroPulse?

Remember, these are the end times... ;-) A "credit war" is on the horizon...

Funny, the "Chart Most Holy" (BOINC Combined Statistics credit comparison) shows MW as 1.619x SETI, yet your 6400+ system seems to be doing slightly better than what my overclocked 3700+ did at Cosmology, which was really about 2X SETI... However, your 3700+ is only getting about 1.1x SETI... Is your 3700+ overclocked at all?

Also, I think that people need to lighten up about "absurd credits" being issued by projects that are classified as "beta" projects. The disaster at Cosmology should serve as an example of what can happen, even if it appears as though the project is running just fine for an extended period of time...

I'm running with NO overclocking at all and only standard apps. The only time I ever used an optimised client was with the last run here.
By absurb I was referring to the fact that here a 15 hour pack gave 221, there an 8 hour pack gives 260. 4hour pack gives 137. For the 4 or 5 days I was running, I was getting 5000 credits as opposed to 2000+/- here.... Either way, it wasn't designed to be an experiement. I was looking for a back up and just kind of stumbled on they were giving me so much more credit. So for me I had a limited exposure to 1 project that in my mind was giving more credits than I ever made in a day, even with einstein's optimized credit.

This just exposed me to a short time of getting an unusually high number of credits and honestly, I didn't feel that I wasn't going anything productive except gobbling those figures and not doing anything productive.

In either light, it points out to me that there are a various number of reasons to join a project. Whatever the reasons are made more important that whatever it was has the effect for furthing the science of the projects. We all get pleasure out of certain things, mine is not romping around looking for the most. I can under any circumstances Still compare my participation here against others in the project and feel that we are all reasonable the same. Albit with a few exceptions. I guess that means more to me.

PS... One other thing. there is a credit war in the making within Milky Way right now as someone apparently has made an optimized client and is getting 1.5 million credits a day..... Just one more reason that the more I look at other projects besides Einstein and CPDN that I'm glad I found the 2 best!!!!!
