Pardon my ignorance, but where does one extract this app to if one is using BOINC 6.1.16?

Thanks!

Here.

I had successfully run this previously on BOINC version 5.10.45. However the newer BOINC version 6.1.16 is set up differently, and I cannot figure out what file to extract the EAH app. 4.36 into to get it to function.

Thanks.

Hi ladies and gentlemen, just what i'am looking for, too. An optimized app. for E@H !

Saw some familiar names, since this is the second time i looked on these forums.
I decided to spend some crunching time looking for pulsars and their behavior .
(Shame on you Fred ;) )

But i don't see ANY graphics, or 'screensaver'.Is this normal with the 6.1.0 BOINC app., or is it something else.

Is there someone, who can and will try to explain this, please?

I will be most obliged, Fred J. Verster, a.k.a. Fredericx51.

Hi Fred - welcome to the E@H project.

Here, optimised apps come as either beta test apps or "power user" apps. This particular one, 4.36, is a Windows power user app and it's very fast compared with what came before it. It's a giant No-No to have a power user app with working graphics that would actually slow it down :-).

Seriously, if you check out Bernd's opening post in this thread, you will find a comment to the effect that the graphics are suspect to say the least. I don't know that too many power users actually want to run graphics anyway :-). In my case, I've never even attempted to run graphics as I just want to maximise crunching so I can't really help with your problem.

If you are running BOINC 6.1.0, you are probably in for plenty of grief as my impression from the little I've read is that 6.1.x is seriously not ready for prime time yet. You should at least upgrade to the latest 6.2.1 which is likely to be better. If you are going to run alpha test software, you really should update immediately a new version comes out since the bug fixes (as well as the new bugs) should be coming thick and fast :-). If you actually want to crunch rather than test BOINC itself, you would be far better off staying with the more stable 5.10.45.

Anyhow, welcome to the project.

Cheers,
Gary.

However I found the graphics not coming up properly every time, but couldn't deterministically reproduce the problem. It would actually be nice if someone has a machine that shows this problem somewhat reliably. My current guess is that it requires a "shared user" installation.

How reliably? Something like this? :-)

I get that all the time. BOINC 6.1.14 to 6.1.16 and now in 6.2.1

Although you may find this useful:

It sounds as though some of the applications need to be rebuilt against the latest API.

I fixed a bug awhile back:
Rom Mar 13 2008
- API: Include 'Global\\' in the shared memory segment name for worker and
graphics applications so that the memory can be shared across terminal
server sessions.

This check-in also allows to different user accounts to access the same shared memory segment, boinc_project (worker) and user account (graphics).

The latest WCG apps should be working as far as the graphics and worker app communication goes
