My computer Einstein died so I tried to merge it with another of my computers but it said No hosts are eligible for merging with this one. Is there another way this can be done because I don't want to lose the credit it has (69,340)??????

The credit will stay with your account and will not be lost, even if the "dead" computer will in 30 days or so scroll off the list that shows your *active* hosts. By clicking on a link you will get a list of all computers (ever attached to your account, including inactive ones).

Merging ist just meant to eliminate "double identities" of individual PCs. If you could merge completely different PCs, this would make statistics like "Top 10 computers" completely useless.

LOL....

Like it isn't already!! We see cases of folks getting creative with working the system to get a host to pop up at or near the top of the list all the time.

@ Hanford:

In any event, even if you delete the 'dead' host from the list of computers the credit he had earned will still be maintained in your account total.

Well, OK, but it's not as easy as just cliucking on a "merge" button so 99 % of the statistics will be valid. Not that I care much :-), but I just don't see why it would make sense to merge two completely different hosts (as you stressed out, the credit is not lost).

Agreed. As far as why you can't just merge whatever inactive ID's you want, I guess it just doesn't fit into Dr. Anderson's idea of what 'tidy up' means. :-)

If the hard drive is ok, then you may be able to install it into another computer and just keep going, good chance Boinc may not even give you a new id.

Or if you can get the drive mounted in any way shape or form, copy the BOINC folder tree off it and put it on a working PC.

On a related note to this,

On a related note to this, awhile back I rather stumbled onto a few hosts that sure looked like something was awfully wrong with the credit numbers. I was looking at hosts that were a few months old with something like 6 million+ credits. Geez, folks, I've got a pair of Q6600 quad cores that are top of the line crunchers, but they don't get squat compared to those numbers.

I wish there was a goof-proof way to detect cheaters without falsely identifying the real pros who are pushuing their machines.

They may not be cheats. Could be they have a cluster of machines that all report through the one computer and that computer is the only one with a Boinc id. I think they call it a superhost as the others hosts on the system don't have access to the net, so one computer gets all the glory.

Please don't hijack somebody else's thread. The OP was clearly seeking advice on how to retrieve his credit info from a defunct computer. To start discussing potential cheating cannot in any way be said to be related to the OP's question.

Perhaps you were looking at the same "hosts" that were discussed in this thread. If not, and you wish to bring attention to behaviour that you regard as anomalous, please start your own thread and point out what concerns you. Please don't assume the worst without first allowing an explanation to be forthcoming. An accusation of cheating is not something to be made lightly.

Cheers,
Gary.

That is NOT possible. It's a feature request that has not been implemented.
