Bernd, the combination of the

Bernd, the combination of the latest science app and an old core client seems to work okay for my not-so-cooperative Ubuntu box. One task just validated and I have another one at 80% done. No more signal 11 since the changes and no more of those annoying "signal 6 at restart" which killed the other half of my Einstein WUs, either. I got a couple of "exited with zero status but no finished file" messages when I got thrown of the internet but at first sight that seems to be rather harmless.
In case you look at the WU: The "no heartbeat from core client" messages right at the beginning have occured before the core client downgrade so they can be ignored. I'm not sure what "signal 2" and "signal 15" is, maybe that comes from terminating BOINC via ctrl-c at the command line? Doesn't seem to have done any harm, anyway...
So, it looks like I could finally get a few WUs done with this box :-D thanks a lot.

It does.

Thanks, so that should be

Thanks, so that should be normal.
Just an unrelated question: Is there a way to manually "fake" the version string of the BOINC core client? Enigma at Home has stopped giving me any work since I'm using the old client, but with the new one, Einstein has problems, so it might be an idea to use an older client but pretend it was a newer version...

I'm of the opinion that they have a minimum version for a reason...

That's what I wonder, Brian.

That's what I wonder, Brian. Some projects have it just to keep out certain "optimized clients" which tended to produce invalid results (or could be used for cheating, but that can hardly be an issue here because Enigma gives fixed credit anyway). Maybe there would be other technical reasons for needing a certain client version, e.g. certain features the older clients don't have... Maybe I should just ask over there before I take any action. After all, I don't want to mess things up; I simply want to be able to participate in both projects.

This

This WU
http://einsteinathome.org/task/91142788
experienced a couple of app restarts (no heartbeat from core client) with the old client version (and I'm 100% sure they happened AFTER the downgrade, both from the timestamps and what BOINC reports about the WU). Since it only happened for about half an hour (probably until the laptop had internet connection again) the amount of crunching time lost was probably not THAT big, but still, this doesn't seem to be quite ideal yet.
Sorry to come up with bad news yet again. If you tell me it's just my box, I'll be quiet immediately and make the best of it- I'm just not sure if this indicates a "general" problem which might affect other crunchers, too...

I wonder you always get problems!
As far as I know you are using Ubuntu (which is a kind of Debian!). I never have that kind of problems with BOINC core client 5.10.28, einstein app 4.24 on my Intel Pentium M laptop using Debian Sid (unstable), Linux kernel 2.6.23-1-686.
Suspending network activity, start and stop BOINC, everything just work fine.
To watch the progress of BOINC I use a nice script called boinc which you can find at
http://phileimer.9online.fr/
That script can be used as a console tool to display information about BOINC projects and working units. It can also be used to start or stop BOINC.
Wishing you more success!

Well, you mention a Pentium

Well, you mention a Pentium M, so I guess you mean a single core box. Wasn't there the theory that this kind of problem is more likely to occur on a multi core machine? I think so. Besides, while Debian and Ubuntu share of course many characteristics (which would be why I found switching to Ubuntu so easy ;-) ) the software packages are sometimes quite different, so it's difficult to say if something that is true for Debian is also true for Ubuntu, and vice versa.
Anyway, thanks for your report and the good wishes :-)

PS: Strangely enough, I never had any problems on my FreeBSD host, although that app is much less widely used... so I'm not ALWAYS attracting trouble, only when it's unlikely :-D

Hello, I have added my

Hello, I have added my freshly purchased PC to my BOINC Projects. SETI is running fine. On Einstein I get on all Results

5.10.8

process exited with code 22 (0x16, -234)

execv: No such file or directory

]]>

It is a dual Xeon with the latest Kubuntu installed. The BOINC Version is the standard Ubuntu 5.10.8. I post this here, because the next result will be done with the beta. No clue what code 22 is. But I thought, what ever it is, it might be interesting for testing. So I installed the beta. Hope you will get something out of this.

Happy crunching, Christoph

64 bit machine?

Code 22 can indicate a need for the 32 bit compatibility libs (ia32 plus dependencies)...
