Just turned on the new 4.40

Just turned on the new 4.40 app. The transition was seamless. No errors yet. About 75% on one core (6 hours more needed) and 7% on the second (reports completion 27 hours later). Waiting for completion...

Looks good! :) This

Looks good! :)

This workunit was 100% run on the new 4.40, and ran about 2% faster than the 4.38 application.

Succesfully completed WU,

Succesfully completed WU, that started with v. 4.30. Now working on one 4.38 version WU and started one pure 4.40 WU.
Here's the result

This WU is a mostly pure 4.40

This WU is a mostly pure 4.40 run, but did start with 4.38. Ran approx. 1.5 hrs less than the previous WU which was pure 4.38.

Seti Classic Final Total: 11446 WU.

This work unit apparently

This work unit apparently completed with no problems. Time doesn't seem much different.

This was partly done with

This was partly done with 4.38 and 4.40. Nothing unusual to my eyes. This is my first pure 4.40. Also looking fine to me. Took so long due to my other projects.
What I recognized, during computing of both WU's I stopped BOINC (switching off, updating, restarts), but only in the first one is just only one entry "starting from checkpoint". My setting is "leave app in memory when other project running". But when I stop BOINC or do a shutdown/restart, then it should be there, or not? Ok, nothing really to do with the science app probably, and all results up to now validated so it's not affecting anything. But I'm curious. Thanks in advance.

Happy crunching, Christoph

The Leave app in memory setting is only valid while BOINC is running (i.e. during app switch to another project). If you shutdown BOINC, it clears it from memory.

This WU is a pure 4.40 run and ran about 50 min. less than the one above. (both came from the same data pack).

This is a 3% improvement for me... I'll take anything I can get!

I started a new result with v4.40 about an hour ago and it seems to be running fine. But, it is "way too early" for me to tell anything about "speed".

The above result has now run about 13.4 hours and is 16.7% complete. That extrapolates to about 80 hours. If it actually takes that long, it will be about 3 hours slower than my last v4.38 result on this P4 Prescott. The WU's appear to be similar, but I guess this new one could turn out to be a bigger "Monster" than the first.

The above "pure v4.40" result finished slightly quicker than my early projection. That is, instead of being slightly slower than v4.38 on my P4 Prescott, there was essentially no difference in speed between the applications (on virtually identical units).

Bernd, who currently has poor

Bernd, who currently has poor Internet connectivity, informed us that some last minute improvements were included in the S5R3 codebase. This means that, contrary to previous announcements, the current set of beta apps will NOT be able to crunch S5R3 results.

There are still a few days worth of S5R2 results in the server pipeline, so there's no immediate hurry. But you should be prepared to de-install any beta app you might still have, including the most recent one, in the next few days so that your computer(s) will automatically download the new S5R3 app once the new run begins. It's safest (and the most traffic friendly way) to let the whole currently loaded pipeline of results finish and only then remove the app_info.xml file (no matter how long that takes). If you perform the change earlier, any crunching and un-crunched results in your pipeline may be rejected, but you will get new ones after the currently available official app is downloaded automatically.
