Hi everybody !

Here http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/apps.php I read that there are some einstein@home apps for sparc solaris.
However
1. When I try to attach project from a SPAR solaris 8 system, it tells me :
22/06/2007 18:09:31|http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/|Scheduler list download succeeded
22/06/2007 18:09:31|http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/|Sending scheduler request to http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/EinsteinAtHome_cgi/cgi
22/06/2007 18:09:31|http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/|Reason: Requested by user
22/06/2007 18:09:31|http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/|Requesting 259200 seconds of new work
22/06/2007 18:09:32|http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/|Scheduler request succeeded
22/06/2007 18:09:32|Einstein@Home|Message from server: platform 'sparc64-sun-solaris' not found
22/06/2007 18:09:32|Einstein@Home|New host venue: school
22/06/2007 18:09:32|Einstein@Home|Successfully attached to Einstein@Home

2. When I search accross this message board, I reade a lot of message where forumers tell there is no Sparc port of einstein@home.

So, what is right, and what is wrong ?

Maybe someone could help me solve this issue.

Bye.

Solaris SPARC port ?

The applications listed on the apps page for Solaris are for earlier Faster all-sky pulsar search science runs (which are now complete). The current science run (S5R2) is the Hierarchical all-sky pulsar search which only has applications for Windows, Linux and Mac, and a beta release for FreeBSD.

Hope this helps.

OK, thank you MSeery for this

OK, thank you MSeery for this explanation.
The "apps" page is not clear enough, I think
It should be stated that "Faster all-sky pulsar" is not used any more.

Thanx

This is very disappointing

This is very disappointing since I had discovered a unused and retired dual-processor ULtraSPARC-II machine that was sitting in a storeroom at work. I was able to get permission to restore it and use for BOINC. There are very few projects that will accept contributions form a Solaris/SPARC machine.

I was hoping to crunch a number of WU on this project since it did have a SPARC compeents. I am now crunching WU at http://www.d2ol.com and it's sister project http://www.childhooddiseases.org/community_tsc.html These are Java apps that don't care as much as bout the underlying platform.

I would strongly encourage the developers to open-source the sky search code or to compile it for Solaris/SPARC since there is a large number of 64-bit machines that are being junked or retired daily that can be powerful machines.

Has there been any status on

Has there been any status on the Solaris/SPARC port? I understand that there have been many demands on the developers time due to the variable length scheduler as well as validation issues.

I have a couple of dual-processor UltraSPARC machines that I want to run for more then the few days a month that SIMAP runs. Yes, I can always run SETI but it seems like any other project that attempts to support "nonstandard" architectures should be encouraged as much as possible.

I am running many machines that are crunching WU from BOINC projects as well as Folding@Home and D2OL and its sister project CommunityTSC. If you need a Alpha Tester for your SPARC then I can easily have dedicated machine for it.
