Download space problem

I'm not sure why I can't download any work packets. I have a gig of free hard drive space but it complains that I don't have enough. I have my preferences set to use no more than 10GB disk space, leave at least .1GB disk space free, and use no more than 50% of total disk space. It didn't work with the default preferences either. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Download space problem

Change the 50% to 90% and you will probably find it will then work. These days, 1GB of free space isn't very much. How big is the partition in which BOINC is installed?

Edit: I'd also change the 0.1GB value to 0.001GB, ie 100MB to 1MB. This on its own would immediately allow things to work. Also forget the question about partition size. I hadn't read the log closely enough.

Cheers,
Gary.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. I followed your advice but it still didn't work. Any idea why it's only seeing 85MB free?

Is it a separate partition

Is it a separate partition that BOINC is on?

If not, then you still got the problem with the percentage of total disk space.
You have 9.77GB, you have 1018MB free. That's less than 1GB.
90% 0f 9.77 is 8.793GB (total disk space to be used by BOINC)
9.77-8.793=0.977GB is the amount of space you want off the total disk space that BOINC uses.

Did you also change your minimum of space to 1MB as Gary told you to?
What else is on that drive?
How much does Windows tell is free?
Do you have your Windows Page File on that drive as well?
Do you have more than one drive?
And getting back to the first question, is this a partition? If yes, please tell how much the total drive size is and how full it is.

I finally got it figured out.

I finally got it figured out. I went back to simple view on the BOINC Manager and went to preferences. I changed "Use no more than: 100MB disk space" to 200 and the download went through. I'm not sure why I couldn't get to this setting in advanced mode but it seemed to do the trick where changing the settings under my online account couldn't.

Thank you both for taking the time to help me.

You'll be back in time on this or another project forum then.

What you set is a preferences override file.
You now told BOINC to only use 200MB at maximum. Which won't be a problem if you only run EAH. But if you run more than one project it will be a problem.

The preferences override file (global_prefs_override.xml) only has that many options. For the rest of the options it will fall back on the normal file set through Your Preferences. That normal file is called global_prefs.xml

So please remember what you did when another project complains about space.

Hey, no need to get testy. It was set to 100MB (I believe this is the default but I may be mistaken) which seems to be what was hanging things up. I changed the settings in global_prefs to no avail. If you believe I went about it the wrong way, what do you think I should have done instead?

I wasn't testy... I just forgot some good old smileys. :-)

Anyway, what seems to fix it for other people who have tried just about everything, is put the projects to No New Tasks, run the remaining cache dry, report all results, exit BOINC, uninstall BOINC, delete the BOINC directory and all sub directories, reinstall BOINC clean and re-attach to the projects.

I know it's a long and tedious way around what could be a bug in BOINC.
Then again, it could be that there's something stuck in one of the projects folders that's taking up quite some space. A total start-over clears that.

Then I must have been the testy one for reading into things!

I finally got a chance to do this and it worked like a charm. No complaining about space problems. Thank you for your advice.

Thank you. This worked for me too.
