A new Beta Test App is available on our usual Beta Test Page.

It features some more hand-crafted assembler code and a slightly modified (hopefully improved) CPU detection.

I've seen very large variations regarding the speed compared to the 4.01 App depending on the CPU type, so if you report speed values here, please also report the CPU.

Happy tessting!

LINUX Beta Test App 4.16 available

Here are some times. The top three are from the new science app (4.16) whereas the rest are from the 4.01 app.

10,433.72
10,112.48
10,129.39
11,911.66
11,483.37
11,483.67
11,478.31
11,625.21

New avg = 10225.20
Old avg = 11596.44

New = 0.882 * old, ie a 11.8% speedup, so far. Nice.

I'm using a P3 coppermine, 600MHz, which supports sse. It has 256 KB cache, and afaik, sse has been successfully detected by both app versions.

We are testing this code on Linux first (this time), but the improvements will go into all x86-based Apps.

After downloading beta test

After downloading beta test application 4.16 I got two validate error results. The firt was crunched by original app. The second was crunched by test app.

I crunched about 60 results on this machine and these two results are the only with any problem.

Speed-up is about 11,5% on my Athlon64 (socket 754)
