On beginning an Einstein task, a "computation error" is immediately reported and the task terminates. Resets clear the task, but the process repeats with each new task downloaded.

Should I just detach from the Einstein project and use BOINC with other projects, or what?

"Computation error"

stderr out

5.4.9

CreateProcess() failed - The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. (0x20)

hmm. looks like the file was lockd when e@h need'd it.. antivirus scan? adware scan?

I saw that in the message log... there has been no configuration change since the days when Einstein tasks were running successfully, and disabling antivirus (NOD32) and spyware catcher (Webroot Spy Sweeper) does not correct the problem. I can't imagine why any files would be locked. SETI, Predictor, and World Community Grid are all running smoothly.

I just now did a "Detach" and then re-Attached. Got a new task, but it did the same thing.

I'll leave it alone for now and, if it doesn't correct itself or if I don't figure it out within the next few days, I'll leave Einstein to others. :-)

allright... well. i know how people are about outside links so ill post this as text.. http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/Filemon.html ive used that utility before to see what the heck was useing my external harddrive so much, it was being used every couple of secconds but nothing showd any real activity in taskmanager. i used that and had it ONLY watch my "G:" drive wich is my usb drive, turns out it was mcafee "hanging" on apache servers exectueable(sic) for some odd reason..

anyway it dosent access the files itself it just reads the "i/o" activity. and i THINK you can have it watch for a specific file.. grantid its a lil buggy if you try to use alot of filters.. you might be surprised..

edit: had the wrong link, they seem to have two of the same program with different names. my bad.

Paul:

Thanks for your advice. I'm familiar with the Sysinternals (aka Winternals) tools, so I may just give FILEMON a chance to do it's thing. FWIW, REGMON (if you're not already familiar with it) is also a handy little sucker for seeing what keys are being read/added/modified... and by which program(s)... in your machine's registry.

Strange coincidence - I get exactly the same problem with Climate Prediction. I was recommended to keep regular backups, and restart from them, but this has no effect on my problem, which is that whenever I start a new project I get "computation error". I'm in process of re-downloading the software, and starting from scratch. I'd be interested to hear of others having the same problem. I can't find anything that answers it on the messageboards.
