Newbie Here, What am I expected to do?

Hi Stargate,

I've seen your nick a few times before so I had a quick look and there are 10 people who use 'Stargate' as all or part of their name so I guess that's why it looked a bit familiar :).

I see you joined back last December and I see another one of the 'Stargates'. also an Aussie, joined last October. I guess you may have two accounts :). I notice you also have two identical computers registered. Do you actually have two or is it the one machine registered twice? I don't think there is much you can do about an account double-up (except make sure you always use the same one) but you can easily fix a computer double-up if you really only have one.

Now for your questions. You don't have to run the screensaver if you don't want to. Running it will take some CPU cycles that otherwise would be used for crunching. When you say "Screensaver" button, do you mean the "Show Graphics" button in BOINC Manager? If so, you can't grey it out but you can ignore it :).

You are going to see fairly long crunch times with a celeron 1000. I'd estimate from 24 to 28 hours for the "long" workunits you are currently doing on both machines. You can always monitor progress under the various tabs of BOINC Manager. Once results are finished and uploaded, you can watch a number of things under your account page on the website. By add-ons I presume you mean things like SetiSpy and Seti Driver that were used under classic Seti. The functions of those things are now built into BOINC itself. You don't really need much more if you have one or two machines. If you get a bit of a farm going, say greater than 5 - 10 machines, software to monitor them all simultaneously is very useful. There are things like BoincStudio and BoincView which allow this. BoincStudio is quite new and looks very interesting, with active development going on apace. See the BoincStudio thread in Cruncher's Corner. It's usually just under the stickies.

Cheers,
Gary.

I have a server that is idle

I have a server that is idle at night. Can I run just this?
In other words kick it off at certain times.

Add your link to my link directory.

Sure. Go to Your Account, then on to View/Change general Preferences. Press the Edit preferences link at the bottom.

Now fill in the time you want that computer to work with the setting "Do work only between the hours of". (these hours are your local hours). Save the changes. Open BOINC Manager, Projects tab, select Einstein@Home by clicking on it and press Update.

If you have multiple computers and only want that one server to do it this way, get a BOINC 5.8.x version with the Simple View option, Open BOINC Manager, View, Simple View, Preferences, check the "I want to override etc" option and set the time you want that computer to work through there. Save changes. No need to update BOINC.
