I have installed the BOINC program and setup the Einstein@home project, but since that time I have been unable to get the BOINC program to start again. Any suggestions?

Running BOINC

What happen if you try to start the Program, maybe it´s only minimized, then you can see it down right in the corner.

What OS do you use ?

I use Windows XP. I looked under task manager to see if it was minimized and it was not. It's very strange that is seems to want to run when I click the program, it just doesn't. The BOINC icon will appear in the lower right corner, but only for a second. Then it goes away. I have tried to quickly click it when it appears, but no luck, haha.

Have you checked your start-up permissions? Does the userid it runs under have access to the BOINC folders?

BOINC actually needs to run three programs. One is called boinc_client and one is called boincmgr. What you are experiencing may be what happens when boinc_client is running but boincmgr is not running. If so, use the windows task manager to make sure that NO boinc programs are running. Use (all three together) to bring up the task manager. Then kill any program whose name starts 'boinc' or 'einstein'. Then restart BOINC using START->PROGRAMS.

That's only when using the new CC 4.2x versions, Bruce.
Boinc CC 4.19 only uses boince_gui.exe and einstein_4.79_windows_intel86.exe

Since 4.19 is the default version for the moment, even downloaded from this site, it's doubtful that threadstarter is using another version of Boinc CC. Though we cannot exclude it, of course. ;)

The PC in question though is a P3-866 (Mobile) with 128MB of memory. Since WinXP is running on it, I doubt he has enough memory free to run BOINC. Especially if he is sharing that memory with his onboard videochip.

You're right. I apologize for the mis-information.

Agreed!

I don't think that's the problem. boinc_gui uses about 3MB of memory and einstein uses about 7MB (except at the final stage where for a few seconds it can use tens of MB).
