It seams that this app isn't much faster in the LINUX_COMPAT mode then other alberts. Tomorrow i will report, how it works.
If it works it is a option, but only a option. I had run e@h on some servers at nighttime and i can't install a linux emulution on prod-systems ;-)
I'm running a linux box here - got the einstein 4.40, dropped the beta files into the requisite folder right next to their standard cousins, restarted boinc (client and manager). The message section indicated that the new app is running:
Fri Apr 7 23:08:07 2006|Einstein@Home|Found app_info.xml; using anonymous platform
but the task setion still indicates 4.40. I assume this is correct ?

As said in the instructions: "New work should get assigned to the new App albert_4.51". Work that has already been downloaded and assigned to the 4.40 won't be changed.

but this great 'cos I got something to look forward to when I wake up ! It's near midnight here in South Africa, so time for bed (work on Sat). I have stopped the network from happening so will have WU times for you later. At the moment I am looking at around 5 hours (21% in one hour so far) with the old 4.40, so that's a mark to beat, for my box (Bob - just for the record)

Well Bernd, 4.51 is now running - shown this time under tasks, once I had downloaded a fresh batch of WUs. At the moment I am looking at 21% done per 44 minutes, which is somewhat faster. I suppose it might speed up someplace, tho I seem to remember that Einstein is pretty steady speed-wise. I have to get sorted for work now, and will only get home in around 18 hours, during which time this box will be able to run undisturbed. I will be able to give completed WU times then. I would guess at a WU time of around 4 hours compared to the previous 40 hours 46 minutes of the 4.40-powered WU.
Ok, I will do it. I just started a WU with the 4.40 version in order to check that everything was all right. As soon as the WU is finished, I'll try each solution in order to check which one solve the problem.
I think I will able to post my results tomorrow in the evening (UTC+2).

I have renamed the .so file and created an empty one, then I started again the BOINC client. The client downloaded and crunched a WU without any problem (see http://einsteinathome.org/task/24442906).
Concerning the performance, I usually crunch a WU in +/- 29500sec. This one has been crunched in 20043 sec. I will now follow the progress of new WUs and if there is no problem, I will install the beta on my second machine.

The new albert runs under FreeBSD in LINUX-COMPAT.
It runs 20% - 25% faster then the old application.
LINUX-COMPAT must be installed, COMPAT4x isn't needed.
Installation:

#Change to work dir
