Quick question With

Quick question

With these WU's being so large, is there any way we can get smaller ones?

Rosetta allows you to pick a target cpu time, wich will allow you to get smaller work units

My problem is everybody in my house keeps shutting down boinc when they go on a computer and I end up running out of time on some of the WU's

Let us be able to pick the size of the WU's

Just an idea

Don't know if that's practical given the nature of the analysis they're doing.

One possibility would be to run BOINC as a service, and don't let your users have the admin privs to be able to shut it down.

Of course, that might not make you too popular in some family circles! ;-)

There's a 3-4x range in WU

There's a 3-4x range in WU sizes, so within limits this would be doable. It would also have the advantage of allowing people with really fast CPUs to only get big ones, lowering the max WUs that can be requested daily.

Not exactly. As was explained to me over at Rosetta, the WUs are all 2-hour, the difference being how many levels you elect to analyse them.

Looks like it! How do I check its performance?

A very useful program is Throttle Watch (http://www.techspot.com/download400.html). It will tell you if/when your CPU is throttled.

I had a similar experience when I had issues with my cooler not being seated properly, basically my CPU was running at half speed to try not to melt.
