Ok, now the question is, why does this matter?

Other than you would like to get it done sooner. :)

WHat I mean is, is S5 running now, and by 200 days from now we will be collecting data for S6 even though we have not started processing the data for S5?

That is the only point that is not clear. All of the major projects would like more people. Heck, as far as I know the only project that may be at saturation (for the moment) is SETI@Home though I stopped doing work there so this may no longer be an issue ... :)

S5 started in November and will be running for over a year! We should have lots of data to look at. E@H is only a small part of the LIGO project so they will collect data whether E@H can keep up or not.

It is worth noting that the more computing power E@H has the more likely we are to find a gravitational wave. That is to say that the scientists can tune the search to find a weaker signal in exchange for using more computing power.

BTW, If you post questions like this question in the Science forum you will be more likely to get a response from someone who is truly knowledgeable like Ben Owen.

I think this is a great

I think this is a great feature, it does help to understand and see where the project is at ... so, I was just curious since the article/invitation was on the front page ...

Also, the request was for more people to do that work, hence throughput, hence number crunching ...

Every little bit helps, I

Every little bit helps, I hope. I've just changed E@H / S@H resource share ratio to 7/1, turning SETI into a backup project on my computer. They have more than enough enthusiasts there. It's a pity I won't be able to buy a really strong machine before the end of summer (sigh - those family vacation plans are unavoidable...), but when I do, it will crunch for E@H only. I've had enough of backups, besides this project has proved that it's reliable. :-)

OK, I am sitting in bed with my laptop trying this out. The bad news is that the query is very slow:

select min(received_time) from result where server_state=5 and outcome=1 and (validate_state=0 or validate_state=4) ;

If this query takes a long time to run it may be too heavy to put into the server_status page (which is already a pig).

The request for more people is on the news, page 1 ... the data is shown on the status page. And, basically yes, you answered the question.

Unfortunately the answer indicates to *ME* that though our contribution is of value, it is not a limiting factor ...

That said, you are still getting about 30% of my 9 computers so you get about 1500 CS per day ...

Hey, it never hurts to ask for more computing power/volunteers! :) This kind of personal appeal I think helps make it seem like we are doing something worthwhile, and that our computing power is really valued and is being put to good use. :)

But the crisis has passed. The last time I looked, yep, 197.1 days ...

So, we will be done way before 200 days ... :)

I have been altering my set-up though to put more here ... should be shifting to nearly 56.07% to Einstein@Home ...
