An explicit opt-out of getting added new Apps as these are published will not be implemented. Whenever a new App is published, it will be added to the selection.

As an enhancement, could you send messages out to the Boinc client Notices tab when you do so that people who are avoiding a project for some reason can get notice about the need to update their preferences.

Possibly my wording was ambiguous. The point is that we will add new applications to the selected applications automatically, without asking anyone and without anyone needing to edit his settings. Only people who want to then opt-out of a new app and don't want to get (work for) it will have to edit their preferences again.

Apparently my wording was ambiguous too. My point was that someone who has opted out of (for ex) BRP4 because they felt the other projects were "better" in some way will probably want to opt out of BRP5, BRP6, ... as well; someone who opted out of a project for technical reasons (bandwidth limitations, limited system memory, stability problems with a specific app, long runtimes for the hardware being used, etc) would want to keep an eye on the new app to see if the conditions they excluded the old one from running over still applied.

Sending out a notice about the new project being added would give the former group notice that they need to adjust their configuration and the latter that they should keep an eye on their system.

Including general information about runtime/resource changes would be useful to everyone.

I was thinking something like:
The Reticulated Spline Frobination Search 5 (RSFS5) will conclude in about a week. It's being replaced by Reticulated Spline Frobination Search 6 (RSFS6)[link to thread about RSFS6]. This search is using a different, faster, application than the last one. As a result RSFS6 tasks contain 8 times as much data as RSFS5 tasks (80 vs 10MB download/task), but will only take 2.5x as long (5 hours vs 2 hours on an XXXX system). The longer task length was chosen to keep up with increases in system speeds since RSFS5 started.

I believe they are gpu only tasks now, not efficient to run on the cpu anymore I think was the reason.
