Android suddenly limiting to 50% speed?

I'm running Arecibo on my Android phone (version 12).  A few months ago, it suddenly makes Boinc run half speed (according to Boinc).  I'm running one task on each core, and each one is showing 50% usage, used to be 100%.  The phone is cool.  It used to be warm.  So it's not overheating, and is clearly doing less work.  Any ideas what might cause this?  I know the OS tends to interfere if you're "overloading" the system.  The phone has no problems running anything else like games.

Additional:  If I tell Boinc

Additional:  If I tell Boinc to use 4 cores out of 8, they're fully used.  But I used to be able to run 8.

Have you tried turning it off and back on again yet? I'm thinking over time it may just have too much background stuff going on or you could have something else taking up the cpu time.

That is the behavior I would

That is the behavior I would get if the preferences had somehow gotten changed. Might take a look. Has the Android OS just been updated?

The prefs as per Boinctasks

The prefs as per Boinctasks show 100% CPUs and 100% of the time.  I can't access prefs locally, as it's stuck on the logo screen, as is my other phone which computes ok.

The OS auto updates, so probably.

BoincTasks changed the way it

BoincTasks changed the way it is showing the CPU usage. At least now the version 1.93 is showing for a 4 CPU task CPU usage of 100 % and the previous version I had showed 400 % when task was running (on a Win PC VirtualBox task).

I haven't noticed this.  It

I haven't noticed this.  It has always and still does round up the number of CPUs Boinc thinks it's using (either the project told it or you did in app config) to the next whole number.  Then it shows the usage as a percentage of this.  Anyway, Arecibo is a single CPU task.  It's also doing the same with Asteroids.  It's not just showing it wrong, I can tell it's working less hard as it runs much cooler.  Also telling it to use 50% of the cores causes it to use 100% of them.

I think I am confused. It

I think I am confused.

It sounds like you can't access the program directly on the phone? So you are using another program to access the information indirectly?

I use Boinctasks, I have to,

I use Boinctasks, I have to, the phone Boinc interfaces don't work, haven't for months on either phone, even with fresh installations (which only sort it for a few days).  Yet another bug.  I get the logo only, and holding that gives me a log, that's it.

There is a possibility it's Android throttling the phone (like Apple infamously does/did) - someone in an Android forum suggested I look into it with a test utility which thrashes the CPU like Boinc.  I can't use the usual task managers like in Windows, Android prohibits that sort of "spying on other apps".

I could also try upgrading Boinc to the Beta....

I just downloaded the Boinc app for android from the boinc.berkley etc website.

After allowing it to install it seems to have come right up.

No clue about a beta.

Didn't find a copy on Google Play (store).
