Well, I wandered over here with two machines when they ran out of SETI work and I may just end up bringing the rest of the farm if those machines run out of work...

I'm assuming that roughly eight hours per WU is about standard for ~2.0 GHz/1 GB?

Welcome, John - times for my Mac Mini are right at 8 hours, the AMD 3700+ (oc'd) is around 6, so your number sounds pretty good for a first guess. I think you'll like it here. :-)

Hi John, I'm very pleased

Hi John,

I'm very pleased to welcome you and your experience as you join us here at EAH.

Occasionally, when I wander around over at Seti NC, I've seen posts of yours so I know you will add value here. I've learned to respect Bill's judgement so if he says you'll like it here then that sounds great to me :).

Bruce Allen made a comment recently, about the horsepower over here, that you might be interested in. From the numbers quoted, it sure looks like Bruce believes in being well prepared.

Cheers,
Gary.

Welcome! The people and staff here are great. Bring over the farm! We'd love to have all of you!

It's strange about rights management and distribution. It's tailored for this market, but animated over there. You would think the people negotiating the deal would push to have it distributed over there as well, but that could be a cultural issue, since it definately pushes the envelope over here.

Straying back to the topic (that I started), the other machines vary from 2-6 days' worth of work each, but to ease strain on SETI, I've told them to stop downloading new work and will mix in Einstein as their queues drain to zero.

I've completed 2 WUs on the two machines here at 8-and-change each, so that looks to be the average for all but one of the machines here (AMD will be slower because of its floating-point issues).

John,

I think you will be pleasantly surprised at how well your AMD rigs will fare. :-)

Actually, I'm seeing that my two (Intel) boxes are claiming wildly high amounts of credit (167 for 29K seconds, versus 70 or so for 19K or even 56K seconds of CPU time). I've read the other threads in the boards here and assume some of this is based on a slightly different calculation methodology (by E@H vs S@H).

I'd rather be a bit closer to the middle than wildly high, but at least they're sending, receiving and processing WUs...

Only by about 225% ;o)

Welcome John You might

Welcome John

You might want to look into the optimized Einstein apps. They will do your overall WU times a great deal of good. Also if you are using Trux's Client, I would leave it in place if you go to the Optimized units, as the crash in credits is the same as over at seti.

I have not pulled my farm totally out of SETI, but it has had some push more towards Einstein, as has the Team.

You can find links here. As our team forum mirrors the apps, and links.
