Michael,

EVERY software has some kind of minimum requirements, try reading the boxes of games on the retailers shelf if you don't realize this. And, CAN THE RANT!!!

boinc must have tested out the requiements and must have known they would not work for most computers. why can the rant, they released it anyway for those who could use it and the heck with those who could not.the requirements were simply to high, there are to many of us ranting to just ignore it. there are to many people haveing problems with the requiements, THIS SIMPLY TELLS ME THAT THE BERKELEY PROGRAMMERS CAME UP WITH ONE BIG FLAW IN THE DESIGN. THAT IS THE AVERAGE USER CANNOT USE BOINC, ITS JUST NOT POSSIBLE.

[personal rant]
Please stop yelling! I _am_ an average user. My computer is a few years old and was built well, so processing power isn't a problem for me. But as for computer savy, I'm as average as they come. Instead of ranting how hard BOINC is to use (and yes, I ran SETI classic back in the day when all I had was a 25 MHz box), try asking a constructive question. BTW, if I still had that box (and it died a slow and painful death) I wouldn't even dream of trying to put software like BOINC on it. It is a fact of life that there are minimum requirements to run software. If you choose to ignore them and try to run it anyways, be prepared for problems.

I am trying very hard to learn all I can about BOINC. I find it and the concept interesting. The helpers here are unpaid and don't really need to be yelled at. They do it out of the love of computers and the goodness of their own hearts.

If you have a question, ask. Someone here will do their best to help you out. If not, get off the boards!
[/personal rant]

[sarcasm]My God, you're a genius! On the bullseye! You saw through it all, clear as daylight, all the flaws ( superficial and deep ), including the deliberate traps for newcomers, in less than 24 hours! How can this forum ( nay, the solar system ) contain your intelligence, acuity and wit..... I bow down before you, The Master. [/sarcasm]

I have made this letter longer than usual because I lack the time to make it shorter ...

Michael, a simple question.

Michael, a simple question. If you go to the grocery store and discover they have remodeled and you can't find anything, do you complain to the management, or do you start screaming at the other shoppers, who offered to help you find whatever you were looking for?

Because at the moment, you are screaming at your fellow BOINC users. We happen to like the way they've remodeled, but we didn't DO the remodeling, and we certainly had no control over it. If you want to yell at the management, go over to the SETI boards and get Dr. Anderson's email address and go for it.

Screaming at your fellow shoppers is a quick way to get a visit by the nice people in white coats.

Thanks for your help folks.

Thanks for your help folks. We do this because we want to help. I agree with most of you. Berkeley does it for research - not out of the goodness of their hearts but because it is their job. We use our computers out of a sense of responsibility to help their research. Unfortunately I, like many of those punters out there, know next to nothing about this box and only rely on what the website tells me is minimum requirements. I have those minimums but it is not good enough.
I intended to upgrade with a bit more RAM, but I now think I will just forget it. I also ask the question - If SETI@home worked for me for a few years, why did they have to fiddle with the programme? It was fine before.
And please stop screaming at each other!!!!

Dear moderators,
please make one of the "screensaver doesn't work" threads sticky!
Michael

Done
how do we make the scrensaver work. what are your problems. www.mlewis14@mac.com

Michael,

This thread is about a "graphics bug" problem that only occurs with Einstein v4.79 and BOINC running on Windows computers. Since you have a Mac/Darwin computer the solutions posted here do not apply to you.

However, there are several Mac regulars on these boards who can probably help you if you will provide a little more info regarding problem specifics.

Stick

I TRIED SEARCHING OUT SEVERAL SOLUTIONS AND I WAS NOT SCREAMING AT ANYONE.. GRAPHIC CARDS TO MORE RAM. THE ONLY THING IS I AM NOT SURE WHICH ONE TO USE. I MAY BUY MORE RAM,IF IT WORKS I WILL POST IT. I AM ALSO CRUNCHING NUMBERS FOR FREE, SO EVERYONE COOL IT.

NO ONE IS SCREAMING. FRUSTRATION CAN REACH MANY LEVELS. AS YOU SAID,WHY REPAIR SOMETHING THAT IS NOT BROKEN. TODAY I AM GOING TO BUY MORE RAM AND POSSIBLY A NEW GRAPHICS CARD, I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE THIS WORK FOR EVERYONE. IF IT DOES SOLVE THE DELEMA I WILL POST IT WITH JOY AND HOPE PEOPLE ARE WILLING TO SPEND A LITTLE TO ENJOY THE RESULTS. THIS WOULD BE FOR A MAC, BUT IT SHOULD WORK FOR OTHER COMPUTERS ALSO, IF IT WORKS AT ALL. I ONCE UPGRADED ANOTHER MAC BECAUSE SOME THINGS DID NOT WORK. IT DID SOLVE THOSE PROBLEMS, BUT THIS IS DIFFERENT, BUT I WILL TRY AGAIN.RESPECTFULLY,
