Better GPU for Crunching

I'm contemplating re-entering purpose built crunching again (after many computer generations away). I'm thinking of a good mid/high end GPU (2 down from top). I'd like to crunch here and GPUGrid. Which GPU Red v Green brand does this forum think would work best and matched with an appropriate CPU?

Nvidia is the only option for GPUGRID, as Keith mentioned. But they don't have much work outside of their Python machine learning tasks.
I would recommend an Ampere based card. whatever is in your budget. Turing cards also work very well for both projects.

I gather (a) and (b) are at least partly true because it is Lite Hash Rate that makes it non-optimal for crypto-mining. I may buy one. But then, I may as well also get a bigger power supply ( and one that supports the 8 pin input ), a better motherboard ( for PCI express 4.0 ), more & faster system memory ( why not ) and while I'm at it a new CPU ( as you do ). Hmmmm ....

Faster CPUs do help push the GPU jobs faster, but only slightly. I wouldn’t put huge importance on the CPU setup if you’re only planning to run GPU work.

For here, my RX 570 supported by four virtual cores of a Ryzen 3600 does the FGRBP in less than 9 minutes (Ubuntu 20.04.3). I think the GW are comparably good. You will have to spend a lot more to do better.
As for GPUGrid, check their forums. They might have some work by the end of the year.

If he wants to crunch GPUGRID, AMD is out of the question. They only have CUDA apps and AMD can’t run CUDA.

For me I would take the 2 3060Ti's in a heartbeat, new york minute, flash...you get the idea, for me having the ability to run 2 different projects at the same time is the key definer. Yes the 3070 will probably produce faster tasks but you only have one of them, so maybe just maybe if you put 2 3060's on here you might end up with MORE tasks being run with the 2 3060's than a single 3070 can do over a 24 hour basis.
