I just started reading through this thread and noticed that the difference in credit being discussed is also evident in the windows that open when you click on Roswitha's name (on the left, in blue, next to her posts) and then on "View" Computers.
The only reason I can think of, as to why this might be occurring is this: Did you ever have to detach Einstein and then reattach it? If so, you might have had earned some credit during the first attachment which stayed with your account. But, reattaching probably created a different host - the one that is currently in use. Note: I am speculating totally, here; and, therefore, could be way off base.
Anyway, I hope my first observation is helpful in getting some other (and more knowledgeable) people to look into this for you.
Stick,
I think you're pretty close to the target with your speculation. I did something early on (April - probably I botched the upgrade from the old 4.19 app to the 4.37 beta app) that caused it to create a new host, and when I merged computers, ~150 credits were lost in the shuffle.
Michael
EDIT: The 2 WUs for 150 credits were most likely the ones processed during the lag between when I upgraded and when I noticed the 2-host problem, and merged.

Hello Stick,
I did never detach and reattach to Einstein...
I had an "accident" one month ago (my computer has gone hot and shut himself up) and i got new Host-IDs for my Seti-, LHC- and Orbit-Accounts - i had to merge the "new" and the "old" computer which showed up at my Accounts.
But Einstein was not affected, my Host-ID did not change since the day I joined Einstein and I noticed the difference between Host and Total Credit much earlier. It doesn't disturbing me, but I'm wondering
how this could be.
I don't have an explanation for the difference, a lot of things could cause it. I recall a similar complaint earlier in the year, but I only remember that it was fixed, not what the problem was.
Try this - record what the difference is between total credit and host credit. Use the numbers under "your account" here on the server instead of what BOINC shows or you see in the E@H graphics window. Currently your "total credit" shows 25,883.44, the host credit shows 25,321.88 and the difference is 561.56.
Check again later, like after a couple of days pass and again after a couple weeks pass. The difference should be the same.

Hello Walt,
I will do that, I didn't monitored it in the past. I got the feeling you are right - it's always the same amount of difference.
And please don't take it as a complaint - it's no problem for me, i'm just curious.
I saw the thread and thought this would be the right occasion to ask if somebody knows how the difference could happen (or which mistake I have done).
This is one of those areas where there has been discussion for a long time. The problem relates to the way that the BOINC System tracks (or doesn't track - depending on your prejudices) the participant's computers. Since credit is independently tracked this is not usually an issue. But, when you have situations where hosts "appear" and "disappear", are merged and deleted, well, the amount of credit in an account may seem odd.
This is one of those areas that annoys me, mostly from an aesthetic sense, because I too would prefer a correct accounting of credit accumulated by my individual machines. Worse, I hate the slap-dash way the system will assign new ID numbers to computers.

But, with Total Credit independently tracked for the account, host, and team, each grant is added to the three different totals separately. So, the account total should be correct even if the sub-totals for the hosts are not ...
We get such oddnesses, where if you look at my CPDN account you can see that one of my computers has results attached to it that it could not have done because I had not bought it yet .... but, when they did some database clean up, they had to pick one ID to use, and they "picked" that one to tie all of the "loose" results to ...
