Not worth it I think. MW@H is FP64, where cards like HD 79xx/R9 28x with higher DPFP ratio shine.

With this configuration,

With this configuration, would be a single Vega 64 host the best current PPD/($)/watt option?

Considering hosts with up two GPUs maximum. Roughly speaking, no looking for extreme accuracy.

If you can get Vega56 close

If you can get Vega56 close to MSRP then it's the clear winner once undervolted, i think.

Without having heard 1080/1080Ti owners rave about their PPD per Watt consumed performance it's difficult to share an opinion on the better card.
I for one have (so far) not followed the extreme undervolting/overclocking route taken by Ikeke and Mumak in this thread but my single Vega carded machines are doing very well with modest undervolt tweaks giving an average 185 Watt GPU Only consumption for circa 1.25 million PPD.
The highest 'earning' single 1080Ti hosts in the top hosts list are achieving a mere 870 odd thousand PPD but without the respective owners input on power consumption/undervolting/overvolting/overclocking etc.  those PPD figures are meaningless and then you need to factor in initial purchase cost v's power use payback time to find the true best value / better long term ownership card...

Go Vega!!! (He say's quietly hoping nobody is listening) :)

Gav.

The best dual 1080Ti which is

The best dual 1080Ti which is only on Einstein@H does 1,6M RAC PPD

I think Vega has this.

Vega now working OK with

Vega now working OK with Ubuntu 16.04 based Linux and amdgpu-pro 17.40 driver. Early results here running x1 on the GPU. Temp ~70C with fan speed set at 50% using amdgpu-pro-fans utility from GitHub. No idea what the power draw is in this config at the moment but I'm going to jump right in to x2 tasks at any moment to compare runtimes against Windows machines :-)
