I fell flat on my back Can

I fell flat on my back

Can you remember whether your feet were still on the floor, David?  *haul out sketch pad* Specifically - were they mostly beneath the rest of you when it happened - or had they gone off and done something perturbing whilst leaving the rest of you a little behind? Maybe something aerially acrobatic?

I find I'm often quite well-informed as to how I've fallen flat on my back. Flat on my face usually takes a little more post-incident reconstruction, although that's usually because I put so much effort into avoiding doing so before I then in fact do, that there's a lot to recall.

I'm very sorry to hear about your ear.

Please wait here. Further instructions could pile up at any time. Thank you.

I indeed missed an a, but my point stands, many things can be considered a dessert that in other contexts are not a dessert.

Tussen woestyn en nagereg,

Tussen woestyn en nagereg, die verskil in Engels is skaars noemenswaardig ek dink. Ek beteken... hoeveel verskille is daar? Net een.

Ook, ek verwag dat as jy oor woestyne wou praat, Jonathan, jy sal so gedoen het. Maar jy het nie. Jy het oor nageregte gepraat. YUM! En ja. Enige tyd van die dag of nag is "pudding" tyd ;)

...you'll either understand that, or you won't... sadly, no one will know until they do - whether they do... at least I think that's what the fine print says...

I didn't understand but

I didn't understand but Google translate did.

Between desert and dessert, the difference in English is hardly worth mentioning. I mean ... how many differences are there? Just one.

Also, I expect that if you wanted to talk about deserts, Jonathan, you would have done so. But you do not have. You spoke about desserts. YUM! And yes. Any time of day or night is "pudding" time;)

Dr. Mike, your opinion please. Are we dealing with an age-related cognitive disorder, or have they simply been drinking too much scrumpy on Chris' account?

Ah. I think we have multiple factors here. Call it Senior's Scrumpy Syndrome ie. used to go by the well worn phrase 'old pizzpot' :-)))

@Annie : you seem to have got up from your awkward fall and are now bounding off into the grasslands. In fact I think, you have a hunting stance ?

Cheers, Mike.

The link to my weekend has been posted. Oh what the hell, I'll put it here too.

Is the government control receiver still in place? :)

For many decades the control receiver has been implanted at birth and is much like the pets micro chipping device. You don't know you've got one but it reports back everything you do. The NSA know that you had a pee at 15.37pm yesterday, and when you last posted to Seti Politics.

I have no worries about GCHQ knowing my daily business, dunno about you :-))

When I posted in Seti Politics is precisely once, a few years ago when the Illinois General Assembly approved gay marriage. If the NSA wants to know what I'm doing, fine. I'm not doing anything related to national security and I doubt they care about whatever petty crimes I may commit that aren't.

I had someone look at my ear. He says there's a small black and blue spot. The glasses are fine.

What happened was, I tried to sit on a playground swing and failed, falling to my butt and then down on my back, all in slow motion of course. I don't think my feet left the ground,  but they probably ceased to be flat on it, at least briefly. It's pretty likely they went toes-up and my legs flat.

Was there anything else?...

[edit] No, I don't think so.

While Hollywood is sure we all expect deserts to be sandy, and shows us sand dunes even though the plot takes place in a location where the things are unknown, sand plays no part in the definition (annual rainfall under 25 centimeters), and is not true of a large fraction of the world's deserts.

I live in Albuquerque NM, and as the official reporting station at the airport has a reported annual average of 8.67 inches, there is plenty of desert very near where I live.  My specific location probably nudges my annual average up to something like 12 inches, but the great majority of the scenery I see looking west from my street is desert.  None of it looks anything like a Hollywood desert with sand dunes unless you travel 150 miles to the north to visit Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve.  The things are so uncommon out here that they made a National Monument (later Park) of a place where conditions of terrain, wind, and such conspired to assemble and maintain a sand dune collection over a region roughly in the form of a half-circle with a radius a bit under four miles.

Now sand, without the dunes, is a whole lot more common than sand dunes, but it still is not the dominant desert floor material here by a long shot.

That's the attitude that I have as well as regards MI5/6 and GCHQ. Nothing I get up to would be of any interest to them at all, they would soon get very bored! But that is in relation to national security, if I was into petty crime I imagine my local police might take an interest though, but as I'm not they won't. But many people still feel that big brother snooping by government agencies on peoples private lives is wrong in principle. If it keeps us safe in our beds I'm happy about it.

Moving swiftly on.

many things can be considered a dessert that in other contexts are not a dessert.

In culinary terms at dinner it is the course served after the main course and before the coffee & liqueurs, or cheese and port. Unless it is a posh dinner in which case there may well be a sorbet course interspersed to cleanse the palate.

Dessert

Leave out an s and it is generally used to describe a mainly barren and arid sandy area, with little rainfall, whether with dunes or not. It is expensive to transport a film crew to genuine deserts so many films are shot on beaches or a large studio set. Lawrence of Arabia which won 7 oscars in 1963 was filmed in Jordan and Morocco and also Spain.

Add an ed and it means an empty place or to be left behind.
