No work sent

Topic 204481

The scheduler claims that

No work is available for Multi-Directed Continuous Gravitational Wave search CV

while the server status page shows that almost 14k tasks of that type are ready to send. I tried again after one hour: same message. Everything else seems OK (and there is an app for my platform). Any ideas where the problem might be?

Thanks for your help

There's 14k tasks for the "O1MD1CV" (version for fast CPUs), but nearly nothing for O1MD1G (slower CPUs).  Depending on what your machines are, this is probably why you see no work.

The status page says "O1MD1G search progress" has only about 1.5 days remaining.  I wonder if they will redistribute some of the "fast" units to the "slow" type or just let these machines crunch FGRPB1 instead.

All the work for target

All the work for target G3473.1 (O1MD1G) was generated and we are now waiting to get back the in progress work. In the past it caused a lot of problems on your computers when we opened the "fast" search for all hosts. Since the runtimes vary by a factor of two and this can not be compensated on the server side the Client tries to compensate by itself which leads to general problems with work requests and over-saturation of your computers with work. This in fact will slow down the overall O1MD1CV search. So for now you should allow the FGRPB1 search again if you don't receive any O1MD1 work.

The O1MD1CV search is limited to the following CPU models:

  • Intel Core i3-3225
  • Intel Core i5 and Core i7
  • Intel Xeon E3
  • Intel Core2Duo E8
  • Intel Xeon E5-1
  • Intel Atom X52 and Intel Atom X56
  • Intel Atom X546 and Intel Atom X556
  • Intel Atom X7
  • Intel Pentium G2 and G8
  • Intel Pentium G64
  • Intel Pentium G32

Thank you very much for the precise explanation, I appreciate it!

It just would have been nice if already the scheduler had told me "I never send O1MD1CV tasks to your kind of CPU" instead of the somewhat misleading message "I don't have any O1MD1CV tasks available".

Thanks Christian, interesting the E5-2* and E7 upwards are all in the "slow" category.

That bothers me too but because of the delicate internals of the scheduler its not something easy to fix.
