It depends. It will be reported on the next contact to get work, when the time is later than 24 hours before the due date, when the user hits update, or if the version is recent enough (I am not certain this is in 4.45) when queue length of time has passed since the WU is completed.

Set your connect to projects every X to be short. Then this will control the lag.
