Somewhere around here, I have a 6V lantern battery with a cable for a USB powered fan. I just have to find it.
Good move. You'd be surprised how much that will help. Water has this great capacity to take heat away during evaporation ( its 'latent' heat ).
Found it (and it's not dead).
Put it in a plastic bag, right next to my grip (toolbag with rulebook, tools, pain killers, etc.). Put it in the back of the car along with a cooler full of flavored water. When I got there, forgot about it while getting the grip, cooler, and ammo box with the streetcar control handles in it out and taking them into the barn. Remembered it before leaving the barn. Went back to my car to look for it and didn't see it. Decided I must have forgotten it. Putting the cooler back in the car at the end of the day, realized it was there all along -- I'd stuffed a spare shirt and my bathing suit in the bag on top of it.
What I probably should have done at some point was soak a handkerchief in the melted ice in my cooler and put it on my head or neck for a few minutes.

Managed to run 3142 all day yesterday without drying out. Drank much more water than last week and still didn't pee very much. Also ate a frozen strawberry bar midafternoon. Could (and probably should) have been dispatcher but skipped it.
If you are dehydrated it can take a bit for your body to start the peeing stuff again, keep drinking and you will start peeing again. Once you find a 'normal' amount your body will pretty much adjust itself to that amount of in and out. I drink about 100 ounces of liquids on most days, so I pee all the time, on days I'm driving long distance though I tend to just sip and not drink as much, until I stop for the night, so my body doesn't get rid of it as often because it isn't taking in as much as it usually does. Essentially it thinks I'm in a desert with no water so it's holding onto every drop it can, then when I drink like 32 to 48 ounces when I stop for the night I will pee every hour or so as my body says 'thanks now you will pay for being mean to me all day long'. It's a trade off I'm willing to make though as it also means fewer daytime stops, so I get to my destination quicker!! Once my driving is done, either because I'm staying at my destination for a few days, or because I'm back home again I go back to my normal 100 ounces per day and all is good again.
I'm sure Dr Mike would say 'drink normally even while driving' but I'm a 'goal oriented' type of person and stopping every couple of hours does not work with that. I open a 16 ounce bottle of water once I'm in the car first thing in the morning, on my trips, and then when I stop for the night I finish it off. Often it's still half full when I finally stop.
When I'm on the streetcar, I tend to hold off drinking because it's hard to get away from it to pee. Last week, as I said, I drank 4 or 5 20 oz. bottles of water. This week, I had 1 of those plus 4 liters of flavored sparkling water.

Further note on the CPR thingy. I have found that the current overall best survival rate is quoted at about 25% ie. of 100 attempted about 25 survive. The 'best' here means suitably trained people on the spot just as you go down, with ambulance to follow yada yada. Now this reduces by 10% every minute of delay to onset of measures. That's not 10% of 25% per minute. That's 25% in the first minute, 15% in the second minute, 5% in the third minute with the very occasional success thereafter. It is that savage. So please do the CPR for good reasons, but if you do : get on with it and don't screw around with handwashing and 'cultural sensitivities'.

Yet again, I really cannot believe these got on the list at all. I am stunned they even reached the agenda for placement on the list. What an indictment of our institutions that such should be preached. Some ideas should actually be strangled at birth. These are two of them. I can clearly state one thing here : whichever committee emitted that, none of the members of it had been to a cardiac arrest 'in the wild'. Lest they should spout such errant rubbish. You see this will get about because it is now routinely taught & emphasised to the public. It will only increase the ( already high ) fraction of the population who will just walk on by on the day when people need them the most. It ordinarily takes quite a spot of guts to step up and do CPR at a moment's notice to a total stranger ie. if that sort of thing is not a routine part of your life, and that burden should not be enhanced. You may ask for my expertise. Answer : being doing the real deal for 35 + years.

My Club heard yesterday that sadly one of our Members collapsed in a local high street late week with a heart attack and was dead almost immediately. It doesn't sound that any CPR however quickly applied would have saved him. I believe he was in his mid 80's.

14th inning, Joe Maddon puts a relief pitcher in left field. 15th, Bryant homers to go up 3-2, then Baez (another pitcher) gets a grand slam for 7-2. Bottom 15, pitcher from left is on the mound and another pitcher is in left. Then they switch for the best advantage against each batter. CUBS WIN!
