RE: And as a final thought

And as a final thought - Greece is collapsing, the Iranians are getting aggressive, and Rome is in disarray. Welcome back to 430 BC.

All Northern Mediterranean economies based on tourism are collapsing, Portugal, Italy, Greece, Turkey etc. Iran which was formerly Persia, couldn't make enough money flogging their flying carpets to Europe with the import tariffs, and have gone into economic decline ever since.

Well it would do with a new calendar to contend with at the time. Meanwhile Vatican City has quietly got on with a nice sideline selling stamps to collectors!

Iran which was formerly Persia

At my old part-time job we had over half a dozen people, mostly women, it WAS the Dept of Social Services, ie the Welfare folks, I was an IT guy, but all the women said they were from Persia NOT Iran. I asked 'what's the difference' and one of them and I had a long conversation about 'it's how you FEEL, Iran signifies the very strict Muslim religion while Persia reflects a more western outlook on things. NONE of the women wore the head scarves, or even Burkas, the full clothing with only a screen they can see out of, instead they wore jeans or slacks, a few wore dresses or skirts sometime, but essentially the same thing everyone else at work wore. EXCEPT they wore a MUCH classier level of clothing, ie fairly new and not showing much signs of wear. When one had a hole in her jeans one day she went out at lunch time and got a brand new pair that she then wore that very afternoon!! They ALL spoke nearly flawless American English with almost no accent, there was some but it was not heavy or anything like you might think it could be. They also did NOT say words 'funny' like lots of foreigners do when they learn English from a non native speaking teacher. All the letters of the words were like they learned English from an American Teacher from birth, and they may have, we just didn't talk about that as we all had work to do. I was there replacing their pc's as part of the routine replacement process so we had a couple of hours to talk and then I, and the IT people actually doing the work moved on to the next group.

My job that day was making sure everyone new they were getting new pc's that day and time, not doing the actual replacement stuff. After that my job entailed first call IT Support, ie 'my won't turn on' so I would go and make sure its plugged in etc, ie non user problems, and then call the regular IT folks. It saved the regular IT folks ALOT of BS calls and since I only worked 5 days every 2 weeks it was pocket money for me. I was involved in the replacement pc scheduling of over 1600 pc's over a 4 year time frame. Trying to allow the Users to meet Federal time deadlines and keep to as schedule was a royal pain and the WORST part of my job!! I was there for 4 years before they asked me to ALSO be a 'personal assistant' to my bosses boss, and I said 'no thanks' and left for good and fully retired!! It would have involved working 5 days a week and since I was already retired from another job and getting a tax free pension, medical retirements are like that, I was not interested in working 5 days a week!! I am now over 60 years old and off the medical retirement, so back to paying taxes, and onto regular retirement and am STILL not interested in working!!!

Happy Fathers Day to all the Dads out there, you single Moms too!!!

Today the eldest one has white spots on it -

Please wait here. Further instructions could pile up at any time. Thank you.

Yes, we have the best fans in the world. We've stuck with our teams through the good and the bad. I'm celebrating the Cav's win and my win here.

Funny, we say that about Chicago fans. It's especially hard, though, when you only care about a single one of the seven (off the top of my head) major league teams (and several minors in the suburbs).
