On, Friday, September 18th 2015, the first official 'observing run' (O1) of LIGO's advanced detectors in Hanford WA and Livingston LA quietly began when the clock struck 8 a.m. Pacific time. While this date marks the official start of data collection

How far off are we from getting data from there to crunch?

LIGO?

Towards the bottom of the news item you quoted, it says the first run will last three months. My guess is that the data will be processed into a form where it can be distributed to volunteers sometime after the data gathering run ends. I also guess there might be quite a bit of preparation needed so it might be quite a bit later. There's an old, but appropriate saying,

[pre] "It will be ready when it's ready ..."[/pre] :-).

Cheers,
Gary.
