Forgive me if it is already discussed.
I have 4 processes with the same name which I think they are the 4 tasks, and takes a lot of RAM (300 mb each one). Plus I don't know what is that CPU number

4 large processes in RAM [w/ screenshot]

That does look about right, it's about the same on my linux machine. I think it is running 4 times because your host has a 4-core CPU and with 6Gb of RAM there should not be any problems.

I can confirm that. It looks

I can confirm that. It looks similar on my quad-core win7 machine.

The CPU-number is the percentage of cpu usage. That means that each task is using about one quarter of your total CPU capacity.

Btw: Why did you abort CPU-tasks?

I'd suspended for a while

I'd suspended for a while because I was worried about Cpu usage.
Is it normal? I mean, Does it reduce the life of the CPU more drastically?
I normally had 2% before...

What temperatures should I have to check? the CPU and another else?
in that case, at which values should I be worried about?

(my PC is Intel core i5-3450 GHz, 6gb RAM, Intel HD graphics, win7 x64)

Giving CPU time to the

Giving CPU time to the science tasks rather just burning it on the System Idle Task is the whole point of BOINC. So when you look at Task Manager or any other system status like that you will see the CPU driven to more or less 100% utilization all the time. When you have the machine doing something else you want it to do, then you will see the percent of total CPU time being used on the science apps drop by whatever amount the other programs you're running use.

As far as wear and tear on the machine, running 24/7 with BOINC running is in all likelihood going to increase the machine's useful lifespan. One reason is it will tend to reduce the amount of thermal cycling it goes through. The other, and probably more important one, is by not turning it off you avoid the electrical stress of frequent 'cold' starts. Think about when light bulbs usually choose to fail to get the general idea of that effect. ;-)

As far as temps go, there are plenty of utilities around to let you keep an eye on that. The major thing is to regularly blow all the dust out of the machine since it tends to build up quicker because the fans run faster.

So, it's even better to set

So, it's even better to set CPU usage at 100%?

I don't know too much about it, that's why I think it's like forcing the CPU and don't let it breath.

At which temperatures values should I be careful?

YES, I have all of mine set at 100% and have been doing this for over 9 years here and they run 24/7

But I also use RealTemp 3.70 for the CPU and GPU-Z to check the GPU card temps. just to make sure none of them are running hot and since I have the side panel off all of mine I can see if any dust is getting on the heat sinks or fans.

As far as GPU temp I try to keep mine less than 69C and usually they run at 60C or better.

That isn't too much, unless

That isn't too much, unless you don't have enough RAM. When running some BOINC project each task could cost more than 2 GB for RAM. NFS@home was about 1GB for some tasks, so it shouldn't be too much worry on that. Mine always has plenty of space available since I have 16GB in total.

Go Einstein@home.

Hi Magic - what is RealTemp

Hi Magic - what is RealTemp 3.70? Is it something you can download on the web or a fancy thing I have to buy at the pc store?

As far as using my pc for other stuff, my fingers hurt at my age and hate to exchange emails, especially since I got my new cheap keyboard (my big swirling ergonomic one died a month or so ago), and the layout differs in many ways.

I am glad to have something useful to use this old dinosaur on...

I have a tower that opens from the back and it's on a tiny shelf down low. The fan seems to work fine, blowing a cool air out the front. Too heavy to take out and check for dust. Ain't there another way?
