hello, i'm trying to run crunching on AMD A10 APU, but after several minutes of crunching PC hangs completely.
if i disable integrated GPU and use external there is all ok.
does someone have successful set up crunching on AMD APU under linux?

my setup is A10-5800, 8 GB ram
hang under ubuntu 12.04 and 12.10. amd drivers: latest 4 versions, AMD APP SDK 2.7 and 2.8. still same results: hangs.

How many wu's simultan on APU?
My A8 produces blue screen (win7) when trying to run 2 wu's due to limitations of shared memory.

As far as I know internal and

As far as I know internal and external GPU’s can’t be active both at the same time. It’s been a subject on this forum before.
You already found the solution that was given here. :-)

Yes, they can. I usually

Yes, they can.
I usually reconfigure my systems from time to time.
ATM I have a AMD A8 APU together with a GTX550ti running, no problems.
I use win7-64, BM 7.0.42

A week ago I had this system running with a HD5830 instead of the GTX550ti, worked also fine.
In this particular case win might be the better solution.

The reason why I answered here is simple. For my APU the max shared ram is below 500MB. This is a hardware limit not an opsys limit and it is not enough to run two apps. It causes a blue screen after a few minutes, like you posted it.
So, if you try to run 3 or 4 wu's at the same time this could be the source of your problem.

i'm trying to run 2 WUs in time with 2 GB ram dedicated to integrated GPU.
external GPU not present. only A10 APU. hangs after 20-40 seconds of crunching

Thank you Alex, I was curious about your processing speed of the APU A8
Are the 12000 to 14000 times on the A8?
Now I see the Beavercreek times are the A8 while the Cypress times are the external GPU times.

I am putting together an A8 5600K and was wondering if we can do this.

Thanks

Hi,

some advice on how to run WUs on A8-3870 APU *and* GeForce on Linux would be welcome!

Thanks,
Michael

A8 5600K is a newer APU and should be faster, has a better GPU on board. According to the speed comparison chart it should be able to cruch 2 wu's at a time which simplifies the setup (at least for windows).
My A8 is a 3870, a FM1 socket.

I cannot say anything about linux, have no experience there.

I am not happy with the A8

I am not happy with the A8 CPu times as it takes 18 hours per task per CPU.
Don't have any times for the apu yet.

Are there any Optimized AMD CPU tasks using AVX or something for the Aricibo
BRPS tasks??

It only takes 8 hours per CPU task for my i5-3570

Thanks Bill

The advantage of this device is the onboard gpu, not the cpu. Should give you good results.
