I have my machine generally set up so that I install programs on C: (which is backed up regularly) and keep large transient data files on D: (which isn't backed up and is much larger in size).

Obviously, I want to have BOINC store its data on D: rather than in its program directory, but can't find the config option for this kind of stuff...

How do I do this?

thanks.

Configuring location of data files?

A possibility is during the installation of Boinc not to use the default location but to specify any other location. Boinc and all the data folders will then be stored where you want to have them.

Thanks for the tip, but I'd rather not have any Programs on the D: drive (in order to keep it purely as discardable data). Sounds like I'll just have to leave it on C: and put severe limits on max disk usage :-(

(Will look out for a "Set Working Folder" in any future version though, in which case it can have as much space as it wants!)

I've got a similar problem, too. Recently, I want to format my harddisk and reinstall window, I just hold it because don't know how to keep the E@H's projects(8). Is there any idea to move the projects to other partition, or all of deleted project will come back after I reinstall window, I can just go ahead?

Copy everything to another partition (or CD, if no other available, but beware of the write protection tag ;)
Install Windoze and put the backup back.
Install Boinc in the same directory. You have to install it, but all old preferences, WUs... should just be read again.

Happy crunching!

There are some registries or so, but they will reappear with the next install of Boinc, nothing project related.

And a reinstall is afaik necessary with windoze.

'afaik' is a shorthand notation for 'as far as I know'.

Hi, just found this from another thread. Are you using Windows with an NTFS file system? If so try junction link magic. It creates the equivalent of Unix symbolic links on Windows NTFS file systems (but not the NTFS on NT4).

It is available at http://www.rekenwonder.com/linkmagic.htm
