Einstein@Home Discovers Three New Radio Pulsars!

Einstein@Home has discovered three new radio pulsars in data from the Parkes Multi Beam Pulsar Survey (PMPS). Congratulations to the Einstein@Home volunteers whose computers discovered these systems with the highest significance!

  • * David Mason (Kansas City, USA)
    * Vadim Gusev (Petrozavodsk, Russia)
    * Chris Sturgess (New York city, USA)
    * Trey Todnem (Tuscon, USA)
    * Keith Sloan (Nr Winchester, UK)
    * Terry Dudley (San Francisco, USA)
    * Jaska (Oulu, Finland)
    * Companion_Cube (Mönchengladbach, Germany)
    * Administrators of the NEMO Cluster (Milwaukee, USA)

Further details about the newly-discovered pulsars may be found on this web page, and will be published in due course.

Einstein@Home Discovers Three New Radio Pulsars!

Cracking cheese/toast, Gromit !! Congratulations to the contributors. May there be many more. :-) :-)

Cheers, Mike.

( edit ) I note they were coherent searches over the whole 35 minute beam times too!

( edit ) High DM's too!

( edit ) Does J1840-0644 have a 'funny looking' profile ?

I have made this letter longer than usual because I lack the time to make it shorter ...

Great news! Congratulations

Great news! Congratulations to all crunchers, project managers, developers scientists, to all Physics and Astronomy enthusiasts!

Discovered systems are usual double pulsars, or it have rare features?

The first two of the pulsars are isolated and appear to be undistinguished. The third of the pulsars, J1840-0644, spins at 28 Hz and appears to have a binary companion. However it is not a "double pulsar" since the pulsar's companion is not itself a pulsar.

Congratulations to the

Congratulations to the volunteers, the project staff and the scientists running "the Dish", of course.

It is great that we are

It is great that we are constantly moving towards to completion of full pulsars catalog. And each year we do this faster then ever before.
BTW, where can we read about the estimation of the highest possible number of pulsars in our galaxy?

Congratulations to everyone

Congratulations to everyone involved!

Quick question:

Do the "graphics" of E@H get updated with the new pulsars found? If so, would it be possible to have a different colour for the new pulsars discovered by Einstein volunteers? I just think that would look really cool.
