While I completely agree with you on principle, I have to say that the German "heise news" article didn't give that kind of impression. They specialize in IT news and know what they're writing about... lucky for us.

Knowing how the media has this tendency of blowing things out of proportion and taking things out of context, I am/was concerned that those who know very ittle about computers would associate Boinc with a trojan/virus. If they can give factual information and then bring in what Boinc does in relation to the different projects then I think it could turn into a positive experience. We can only hope that this is how it turns out. In the meantime, I think that whatever can be done to bring this idiot to justice should be done.

Depends on the media. But how many computers are infected? 1500 ... Wow!

Sorry, but this number is far to small to be mentioned in that type of media which you fear. And the comments in the forum of the heise article mention the figure of Robin Hood, so I see no bad effect.

And this "Wate", well it is a cracker kid like every other cracker kid in the world. There is no difference to any of those who create false Ebay/bank/paypal/whatever pages and try to phish people. Eventually this person is caught, eventually it is not. It depends on that italian guy mentioned in the CPDN forum. If this italian guy or any other affected computer owner goes to the police, then there might be a chance to bring "Wate" to justice, if not ... well just another cracker kid ... who cares. No need for special boinc law.

The 1500 number was only in the last 30 days. If you look at all the computers, it was something like 5335... A bit more. ;)

Comparing him to Robin

Comparing him to Robin Hood?!? No way! Robin Hood didnt hide himself behind a Trojan Horse!

And JUST ANOTHER Cracker Kid? Damn those Cracker Kids, if the police has the possibility to get their hands on one of them, go ahead!

When will you delete Wate's account?
He has credits remaining on 6 projects: Einstein, BURP, Rosetta, µFluids, Predictor, PrimeGrid

At boincstats are still 1024

At boincstats are still 1024 credits shown, and has get 431 credits yesterday.
I hope that his credits will be zeroed and the account would be deleted.

The reason is that he had pending wus on his account, so the project admin has to delete credit and account after all the credit has been granted.

I don't know if this means

I don't know if this means anything or not but recently there's been another user from Finland with the username TunE that has been having credits added and dropped at an amazing pace throughly upsetting the stats on Boinc. Over the last month there's credits on the 300,000 to 600,000 range that been added and taken away almost daily. The only two projects that are listed is seti@home and rosetta@home (SP) and I was just wondering if you can get those kind of credits from those projects.

I guess I'm more interested in what would cause credits to be flutuation in such a manner. It may not mean anything, but I'm curious.

Offhand it looks like he's having CPID issues.
