I happened to look at my System Restore points on my Vista PC and to my horror found that no standard scheduled checkpoints had been taken since I installed BOINC and started the Einstein@home project several months ago. Normally scheduled checkpoints are taken approximately every day. It appears that BOINC is preventing System Restore from executing. One of the parameters that Windows sets up to enable a checkpoint to be taken is that the system must be idle for about 10 minutes. Once BOINC takes over the Screensaver function, it appears no idle time exists. Is there any way around this other than being forced to manually take checkpoints?

System Restore Prevented from Running
)
In your Computing preferences, you can schedule a time when BOINC is not to run ("Do work only between the hours of ___").
If you ever have used the local preferences, you'll have to use them for the schedule too, since they override the online preferences.

I set it to run between 1:00 and 23:00. One of the System Restore triggers is start at 12am. I will see if that works.

That did the trick. I am adjusting the time to 1:30 to 23:30 because the System Restore kicked in at 00:45. Not much time to spare. Thanks again.
