    Like totally weird dude!!

    I was just taking a look at my messages tab and this message comes up on occasion. Here is a copy and paste of the last few of them:

    Of interesting note is that I have never seen this message before installing the new 6.10.36 BOINC version yesterday. Also note that each suspension lasts only 10 seconds. Any ideas from my fellow crunchkins?

      Have you checked your preferences, both as set for the venue by the computing preferences portion of the web page, and as possibly over-ridden by a preference you have set locally (BOINC Manager|Advanced|Preferences, or something like that)?

      Anything less than 100% on percent of processors, percent of CPU time, or the like?

        That's no wonder, since that feature is new with 6.10.30. It's so new in fact, that Einstein doesn't have the respective entry in the Computing preferences. I copied the following from SETI:

        Suspend work if CPU usage is above  25 % 
0 means no restriction
Enforced by version 6.10.30+

          Yeah. I changed the entry on the local preferences as suggested below to zero (for unrestricted CPU usage) and that will likely take care of it for now until E@h changes its preferences page. The default entry on the local preferences is 25%. That's odd I should think: most crunchkins keep their BOINC hosts running 24/7 for maximum output.

            It's not a BOINC value. What you input there is for any non-BOINC application to take 25% or more CPU cycles, then BOINC will suspend.

            So that includes scheduled anti-virus scans, forced indexing, backup, scheduled anti-spyware scans and such things. It's to help the users who complain that BOINC is slowing down their system while they work on their system. So anything using that amount of CPU cycles will cause BOINC to step out of the way completely.

              interesting, ive ran full scans with boinc going and with it suspended i noticed no difference what so ever, in fact the live AV scan slows down things more than boin does. i.e. installing a program.

              seeing without seeing is something the blind learn to do, and seeing beyond vision can be a gift.

                Whether BOINC slows the PC down (or make the GUI less responsive) may depend on CPU speed, OS, and other factors. E.g. on Macs it seems that running BOINC app with lowest prio doesn't work too well.
