There is absolutely no need

There is absolutely no need to delete your account to start over!

Just go to: https://boinc.berkeley.edu/ and download Boinc, then run the setup program you just downloaded.
After that is finished start Boinc and an "Add project" wizard should show, choose Einstein@home and that you are an existing user, then use the same login info as you use here on the website and the project should be added and tasks be downloaded.

If you have any trouble with any of the above steps please do ask!

I have a box, an HP XW4600

I have a box, an HP XW4600 which uses a Core 2 Duo, very similar to yours. Same amount of memory, although I am running a GPU co-processor. This box is currently running LINUX and GPU only, however I did have it running CPU tasks on Windows 7 without issue. My BOINC fleet (well, actually more of a squadron, Gary has a fleet :) ) is dedicated to number crunching so I am not running anything other than BOINC, or programs supporting BOINC, as well as antivirus.

The Intel Core 2 Duo, is about 10 years old, and while it is a 64 bit processor, I wonder if it has the horsepower to run both Windows 10, and a CPU intensive program such as BOINC. If this is a dedicated machine, you may consider dropping back to Windows 7, if you have a copy, else, you could consider trying a LINUX distribution. Since you have no GPU to worry about, the setup would be quite easy.

If you want to stay with Windows 10, I would suggest setting the Windows experience for best performance. This will free up a few CPU cycles. The other thing you should do is set windows so it is optimized for running processes instead of programs.  Bring up control panel (the old app under Windows in the Start menu) and click on the System Icon. From there, select Advanced Systems settings then click the Advanced tab. This brings up a menu with four choices. Under the performance section, click the settings box, then select the Advanced tab. This allows access to processor scheduling and virtual memory. Processor scheduling is normally set to programs. You may change this setting to Background services. It is an easy setting to change and is benign to the system as a whole.

Lastly, I know you inspected the box from stem to stern for dust and fan issues, but did you actually pull the heatsink off the CPU and inspect the condition of the thermal compound? I had to clean and reapply on one of my boxes, as age and heat had dried out the compound. (You will want to have a tube on hand before you do this.) Careful, that stuff is toxic.

When you reinstall and add E@H again, I would limit the box to the Gamma Ray #5 task, and see how it runs. Limit the amount of work your box downloads to .25 with no more than an additional .2. This will allow you to change up tasks much quicker. If the Gamma Ray task runs well, (or doesn't have any work) uncheck it and check the Gravitational Wave task. At 3.3 GHz, your processor should be able to finish that task in about 16 to 24 hours.

I was able to get back to

I was able to get back to work on October 7, this year after having to delete my old account and reload from scratch.  It has been going as expected until this morning.  I had a problem with my Internet connection and had to reset my router, but it seems it was not connected all night.  As a result I had some work backed up, but I resolved it after I reset my router, however, at around 0730, all of my tasks were suddenly gone as well as the only project I was working on (Einsten@Home).  I was getting messages that the password I was providing failed.  I looked at my stdoutdae.txt and it has a string of messages regarding the wrong password as well as the timing of the time my router seemed to get confused.  I have obviously provided a correct password or I wouldn't be able to get here on this.  My account from the website allows me to look around and make changes, but the BOINC manager will not recognize my password.  When I use the BOINC manager, it will connect me to the local host and then disconnect and it is stuck in a loop.  Where do I provide the BOINC manager with my correct password so I can get back to work?

Please post some examples of the error messages you found in stdoutdae.txt.

Boinc and Boinc Manager are two separate programs, for the manager to connect to Boinc on the local host you should not need to supply a password. It should be enough to write localhost in the address field and leave the password field blank.

There are two passwords in

There are two passwords in play.

One is a purely local password, used when BOINC Manager talks to the local client.

The other is a remote password, used when the computer user logs in to this website.

THEY ARE DIFFERENT - don't get them muddled up.

It is very rare for the local manager-client password to get out of sync. But unfortunately the developers made the 'wrong password' error message the default: it's shown whenever something completely unexpected happens to prevent the Manager and client talking to each other.

I understand that there are

I understand that there are two passwords in play, but the BONIC manager will connect and then disconnect in a cycle that I don't know how to break.  I cannot see a place in BOINC manager where I can even enter a password, so it must be connected to a config file or somewhere else.  I just need to find out where it is so I can provide the correct password.

Thanks

The only file I know about

The only file I know about that handles a password to use between Boinc and Boinc Manager is "gui_rpc_auth.cfg" found in Boinc's data directory. If you haven't touched this file then it should contain a random 32 character password.

More info can be found here: https://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Controlling_BOINC_remotely

In Boinc Manager look in the File-menu and choose "Select computer", you should then see a window where you can enter a host name and a password. Host name = localhost , password = the string from gui_rpc_auth.cfg, then it should work.

I was able to get some help

I was able to get some help from the BOINC software people.  They sent me a clean copy of the cc_config.xml file and I was able to get back on line as soon as that was put into the BOINC directory.

Thank you all for your help and suggestions.

I'm stuck for the last 7

I'm stuck for the last 7 days.  I have jobs pending to be validated, but it has not taken this long before.  It might go 3 days with a flat line on the statistics, but 7 days is longer than I would expect to validate the results.  Is there a problem?
