Space Explosion to Blame for Tree Ring Mystery, Astronomers Say

Them space explosions are quite a worry! I have read of a scenario where a cosmically nearby supernova cracks off and hoses us with a massive gamma flux. Bye bye Earth's atmosphere, scraped clean away. I feel we have only two options in defence :

(a) Not to be here when it happens.

(b) We might 'hide' behind the Sun if the geometry/timing is right. Chancy.

Imagine how worse it would be ( ie. a much wider 'safety' margin would be required ) if supernovae had greater efficiency in turning gravitational energy into EM radiation.

Cheers, Mike.

I have made this letter longer than usual because I lack the time to make it shorter ...

Don't get me wrong I don't

Don't get me wrong I don't think it's not something to worry about but let's face it. What happens is going to happen and there is very little we could do about it at this point in time. But still all the stuff that has happened over the life of our Earth is still interesting... It takes a beating and still it stands... :)
