I'm totally new to this. The android-app works but the boinc server seems to be down. Does anybody know why and for how long?

What do I have to do to get the permission to post in the help-forum?

Thanks for advice.

server down, can't report to help forum

No clue as to why the server is down or for how long, might get some update in this tread over at Seti@home
Running tasks for Einstein should work without the Boinc server though.

As to the requirement to post in the help-forum I think you'd need at least 1 RAC. The restriction is there to prevent spammers.

O.K. Thank you Holmis. Now

O.K. Thank you Holmis. Now what is a RAC and how do I get those credits?
Well, on the homepage einsteinathome.org it is written, that the project uses boinc and I shall download it to join the project. How can I run the Einstein-tasks without it?

RAC = Recent average

RAC = Recent average credit
You get it by running and completing tasks, the project server then validates your work and issues credits.

If you're only interested in running on your Android device then you seem set to go as it's showing here on the site and you have tasks downloaded and presumably running. As of this moment one tasks is completed and waiting for validation, when that happens you will get some credit and thus your RAC will be non zero. The Boinc client for Android devices is downloaded via Google Play store.

If you want to run it on a computer then you would have to download it from the Boinc site and thus have to wait for the server to come back to life.

The BOINC web server is

The BOINC web server is down

On Saturday morning (August 1st) the BOINC web server crashed, and will remain down until further notice.

What this means is if you are already running tasks for any project you will have no problems.

BUT if you are new and want to d/l Boinc you can't do that with the Boinc server but you can get Boinc at sites like Cnet

BUT you will not be able to get any tasks since you first have to d/l the original files for any of the projects.

So you can get Boinc but no Einstein tasks until this server is fixed.

The way I found out was this started yesterday when I repaired one of my HD's and tried to get it back to crunching and after I got Boinc from Cnet I tried to get tasks here....no luck the server is down.

Same thing at vLHC,Atlas, and CMS-dev.....and I imagine LHC or any other project (such as Seti)

So all my other hosts are still running as usual but the reinstalled HD can't get any tasks until I can get files from Boinc server that then lets you get these tasks.

.....but then it gives me the time to do the almost 300 Windows updates.

That's not quite true. Once

That's not quite true. Once you have the BOINC client installer - which is the sticking point at the moment - you don't need to contact the BOINC server ever again. All other files needed come from the individual project servers, which shouldn't be affected by this breakdown.

As Meck said in the opening post, the BOINC message boards are also missing, but most questions and answers can be handled on project message boards like this one. In the long term, if the problems continue, the biggest risk will be to the Wiki documentation, for users and project administrators alike.

I personally wouldn't trust CNet as a download site any more (too many reports of unwanted payloads in their download manager), but many thousands of users have downloaded copies of BOINC available to share or to recreate the archive of older versions: Oliver Bock is discussing with the Einstein team whether the Einstein servers can be used to host a download mirror, and I'm sure other projects will be considering doing the same.

Alright, then I will wait for

Alright, then I will wait for the RAC and the windows version of boinc until the server will be up again, or such a mirror will be available on the Einstein project page. I feel I won't need any RAC at all as you all help me very much. Thank you.

Just another Question:
The android app keeps running since yesterday. Most of the time the accu was full with the power cable connected, and no activity on the device. There are 7 Tasks, one of them is only 1,6% completed, the other 6 aren't even downloaded. Most of the time the app is waiting for the accu to cool down. Is that normal?

sorry, that was wrong. Meanwhile the downloads are all completed, but there's no work on the tasks because of the accu temperature problem.

Well Richard as always I said that because I was doing this last night and that is in fact what was happening and as I said I could not d/l Boinc from here or any other Boinc page so I got one from another d/l site and yes it was cnet just because it was the first one I found with google.

True you are supposed to pay attention when doing a d/l so you don't end up getting things like a new browser or search engine......and not just click *next* with your eyes close (I assume people here do realize that)

But today I am now able to get tasks here and over at vLHC (and CMS-dev)

This is just what decided to happen at the same time as I had just did a clean install of Windows 7 on this host (now getting the drivers for the 650Ti for GPU's here)

And at the same time upgrading all 6 hosts to Win10

But now it is all working again including the d/l Boinc here.

The good thing is now I have one of my Top 5 hosts @ vLHC up and running again since I am d/ling the .vdi and the 2 tasks.

Hey Meck, I see you've had

Hey Meck, I see you've had your first task validated so now you've got both credit and a non zero RAC and are thus free to post to any of the different message boards around here!

For problems running Boinc and Einstein tasks head over to the "Problems and Bug Reports".
For questions about optimizing the output of your machines head over to "Cruncher's Corner".

Those are the 2 most active places around here if you're looking for help or want to discuss how to best run Einstein@home. I'd also recommend stopping by the "Technical News" section from time to time to keep up to date about what's going on with the project.

Keep up the good work! =)
