I'm having a bit of a

I'm having a bit of a different problem with the screensaver. It generated a FORTRAN error and crashed. Unfortunately, I did not record the error. Ever since, when the Einstein screensaver starts, it seems to be trying to display two images, never of which is complete, and both of which jitter. If I touch the keyboard or mouse to break out, the windows desktop is very distorted and I have to reboot.

This is on a Dell OptiPlex 300 (dual 733 MHz PIIIs, 2GB RAM, ATI Radeon 9550) running Win2K.

Is your driver up to date? Also, your DirectX?

I installed screenserver

I installed screenserver yesterday. The problem I have is that the screenserver appears only for a second and then I have black screen with BOINC logo and info: "BOINC screenserver shutting down". I work with Windows XP. Please help.

Assuming your driver and DirectX is up to date: 1/ Does the "Show graphics" option work OK? (That is, can you view the "Starsphere" by clicking "Show graphics" under the BOINC Manager "Tasks" tab?); and, 2/ What is your "Do work while computer is in use?" setting (in your BOINC "General preferences")?

Thanx for your answer. I have no problem with "Show graphic" option. "Do work while computer is in use" setting is default. I have change it to "Always work" but nothing has happenned.

Did you "Update" after changing preferences?

Yes and the result is that now it appears for a moment and then disappears completelly without leaving black screen or whatever.

RE: When I ran only

When I ran only Sety@home the screensaver was working normally, but now I have added the project einstein@home and all I can see in the screensaver is a black screen! Does anyone know why and how to fix it? Thanks!

Inge

I only run einstein but the screen saver does not work properly on my Dual 2.5 MAC 10.4.8 us BOINC 5.8.1 or 5.7.1. I set the CPU to use 50%, but that 50% is gained by cycling on and off each second so the saver flashes on and off–yep...every other second.
I hope the software can be evolved to use a persistant amount of CPU instead of flashing betweenfull use and no use to average 50%. For one thing, it seems to trick my cooling system. It tends to follow the cycle and the only reason I wanted to set the CPU at 50% was to avoid running the fans all the time.
