Be aware there's still issues

Be aware there's still issues with stuck work units with Rosetta,
units which some people at first discounted as normal,
even with 1% progession after 10 hrs lol.

Everyone's got an opinion, right or wrong.

Or stuck at 83.33 % for hours and then ending with a computional error at the end!!!!

Just had one! :-(

Yes, and I said something

Yes, and I said something about that after you posted there ... Rosetta@Home I mean. :(

Sorry ...

A smaller disaster, but I had a predictor work unit pop-up an alert, so, I had one idle CPU most of the night ...

EDIT: I moved my answer to this post over here as it might be more relevant to discuss computional problems in Rosetta@Home over at their boards.

But thanks anyway.

All the projects have had

All the projects have had issues. All still do, you only need to read the posts here to see that some people have trouble with Einstein.

Since the 4.77 Rosetta client was issued, (I got it 23/9), I have only lost one wu to "client error" all others, (couple of pages of them), have worked fine.

It is, of course, worth pointing out that these issues exist.

I wouldn't mind dontating my time to projects like rosetta@home or folding@homeif the information was released as public domain and not proprietary; or easily avaialable to drug companies to make medicines. My sole problem is the fact that the medical industry, when all is said and done, will be far richer than myself who volunteered his time for a good cause. The concept of someone else directly profting off of my volunteer work makes me not do these projects.

Infusioned Both protein

Infusioned

Both protein predictor and Rosetta are public domain. They are not trying to find the structure of SPECIFIC protein, but find a new way of determining a protein's structure. Both groups publish papers in peer reviewed journals, and are, in a way, competing with each other to determine rules of protein folding.

How other companies USE the information that Scripps and University of Washington (or is it Washington U?? I don't know)provide cannot be controlled by the universities, because it is/will be public domain.

However, from what I understand, Folding@home is a for profit group. PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG!!!! (I don't like giving out false information, but this is what I remember hearing).

I hope that helps clear any misconceptions!

Folding@Home is run by

Folding@Home is run by Stanford University and is not for profit. Their results are published in exactly the same way as those of the other academic lead projects.

F@H FAQ

There are other distributed computing systems that are for profit.
