John, if you did not already

John, if you did not already do so, you may need to adjust your preferences to say that you wish to get AMD GPU work and do not wish to get Nvidia GPU work.

Logged in to your account here:

First be sure you know which location (aka venue) your machine is assigned to:

Account|dashboard|click on the machine name in the Computer list
Scroll to the bottom of the page and observe the current value in the Location scroll
(It will be one of these four: generic, Home, Work, School)

Then adjust the work preferences:

Account|Preferences|Project|Adjust the Location scroll to the one your machine actually occupies
Resource Settings
Set Use Nvidia GPU to No
Set Use AMD GPU to Yes
Click Save Changes at the bottom of the page

After you have aborted your previous NVidia tasks (which cannot run on your AMD card) you should get AMD work if all is well.  You may need to poke BOINC into activity by clicking the Update Project button in BOINCMgr with the Projects tab selected.

If you have not already done so, you probably want to run BOINCMgr with the View set to Advanced View.
Click the View menu at the top, and at the bottom of the selections you'll see either Simple or Advanced--the opposite of whichever you are currently using.

In Advanced View, aborting those now useless Nvidia tasks goes like this:
Select the Tasks tab
Highlight the tasks you want to select in standard Windows style
Click the abort button over on the left.

Good luck

So I've installed the new RX 580 GTX video card, and its software and drivers.

Happy crunching!

Everyone, thanks for your

Everyone, thanks for your replies.

I had forgotten to switch from nVidia to AMD preferences. I also aborted all the nVidia WUs, and download of the AMD WUs started automatically. I've noticed a decent improvement in crunch times, from 22 minutes on average with the old card, down to 16 or 17 minutes on the new card. But the real speed improvement I've seen is during gaming - faster frame rate, more fluid movement.

Dr. Roberts (PhD in

Dr. Roberts (PhD in BOINCology),

First this is a Linux Mint box.  It's a 16 CPU thread box with a single vid card, a Sapphire RX 580 @ 1366Mhz sctl clock.

Some days ago I removed the app_config.xml for E@H and using project prefs.  Does the following seem to be in range of reasonable / typical for this set up.  I've been increasing the # of GPU threads for the GW app based on card temp while BOINC is running and I'm thinking about testing "0.2" PURELY based on the GPU temps still under 68C at near idle fan speeds with current:

GPU utilization factor of GW apps:  set to 0.25

Other project GPU tasks running with 0.5 (MW) or 1 (PrimeG) will have the GPU temp between 71~74C and fan spinning at 1500~1600rpm,

Elapsed times are all over the place from 16min to 3.8hrs %-|

Skip

PS:  Fun being back into the throws of BOINC'ing :-)

PPS: Trying to get this box ready to move to a '(nearly) dedicated cruncher' status on anticipation of another box coming tomorrow that will be my new desktop box in a couple days.

Yup a shiny virtual NTF that disappears once you show it to anyone.
