Just guessing...Could this be related to attempts to switch from the beta 4.33 to the official production 4.33? Some people reported aborts while removing the app_info.xml.

I haven't touched any beta apps- whatever changed on my system happened because the servers sent it to me. However, I did install the latest Boinc manager when I upgraded to Vista on the new computer... so, Vista or the new Boinc Manager, perhaps??

BOINC and Vista don't play nice together if BOINC is installed to the default location.
Try moving the directory to c:\\boinc.

I should have said (sorry I was walking out the door as I responded)
BOINC and Vista don't always play nice together if installed to the default location and UAC is on.
Only problem I've had is losing about 80 hours of work after a reboot (stupid dialog box asking to reboot stole focus as I was typing and I hit enter before I realized it and poof... reboot).

It has something to do with not allowing applications to write to the default directory. At least I think that's what it is.
If you're going to use UAC (pain in the butt, but I've left it on) then you need to install outside of the program files directory.
I've not had any problems running from c:\\boinc.
Hopefully someone who understands this better than I do will pop by.

I'm running with UAC and the default install path though, and haven't had any problems, so there has to be something more going on. I've clicked through the prog files\\boinc folder structure and all my data files are being written to the standard paths not elsewhere with OS level spoofing for the app. Maybe it's boinc client version related since IIRC you can controlmost of the UACish settings if your application has a manifest file compiled in. I'm running 5.8.15

The only problem I've had with UAC (and what a pain it is) is that it won't let the Boinc Manager run on startup- it requires me to go in every time and authorize it. I moved it out of the startup programs and put it in the task scheduler for startup, but that only means it now pops up a dialog box asking to continue rather than blocking it and forcing me to dig down into the task bar to get to it.
Apparently if an app is "Recognized" as safe by Microsoft it will go on through- but the new Boinc manager isn't, and I don't know how to get it recognized. What little I've seen says that there is no way to tell UAC to always grant it startup runtime privileges. Any help THERE would be appreciated.
As for the errored problem, I've run six or eight WU's through the system with no problems. I did note in another posting on this forum that Vista can close down too fast and not let Boinc programs save their checkpoints- perhaps that's what happened in your case?
