Sorry folks, we're still having serious database problems. So far everything we are doing to solve them seems to have a temporary effect only, and the DB connections soon get unreliable again. We're working on this, but I don't have an estimation of when it will be solved.

Would it be beneficial or detrimental if we would back off crunching for a little bit?

I've been doing that with my small farm anyway. It's summertime DownUnda and there's less load on the air-con that way.

Cheers, Mike.

Thanks for the info! I set everything to "No New Work" a few days ago and check in every day to see how it's going. I'll be back when it is all fixed. Good luck!

Makes sense, that's what I've been doing here -- diverting cycles to other worthy projects. What I'm doing is simply clearing work in progress queues with a 'no new work' setting. Once the queues clear on each system, I set Einstein to suspend. At some time in the future, when Einstein is running smoothly, I'll switch back to live, and allow downloads. In the interim, SETI, World Grid, and Rosetta are appreciative .

I understand the air-con issue (living in Arizona) -- seasons are reversed though.

For some reason my dear beloved insisted upon the inside portion of the split system being placed in the family/TV room. Having it installed in my study ( other end of house ) where human benefit is obtained second-hand was not an option alas. :-)

Cheers, Mike.

I know how people feel here lol. Im also down under and at about 5am (now) my room is a toasty 30C while outside is around 18C and the rest of the house is around 20C. The computers add to the temp a little lol. I recently had ducted installed and im much poorer because of it lol but i cant justify running it just to cool my computers. It is nice come winter lol. By far the warmest room in the house.

Well, I actually came to find out that an AMD 64 in the room makes for much more comfortable working nights in winter ;-)

Ah yes, siting around on a cold winter's day with your feet propped up on a nice warm UPS is almost as good as a fire.

Yeah, we live half way up a

Yeah, we live half way up a mountain range ( ~2K feet over the surrounding plains ) and don't mind the winter boon from these heaters that also calculate. :-)

The main issue is electricity supply reliability - various environmental and situational causes - so we are used to blackouts of 24hr + duration at least a couple of times per year and many more of lesser length. :-(

Cheers, Mike.
