Hi,

now, that the GTX 680 is out and available, I think of buying one.

Will it work out of the box w/ BOINC/Einstein/Linux?

I see at least one obstacle at the moment, it will probably need the newest driver, which is not supported by Einstein ATM.

NVIDIA Kepler

One or two people at SETI are asking the same thing about their application, and at least one user I know of has a card on delivery for tomorrow and is gearing up to perform tests for us.

@ Bernd (or anyone, really) - does Albert have the same protective driver version check - if not, I could point him there and ask him to give it a whirl once he's finished SETI. The driver that will be needed is v301.10

Hi Richard, looking

Hi Richard,

looking forward to this guys report. Can you point me to the SETI thread in question?

The next problem is, that there is no 301 driver for Linux ATM (not even beta).
At least not through the usual channel.

It was a private enquiry by email at this stage. But as soon as any results appear on the board (and I'm sure they will - good or bad) I'll post a link here.

I have a new system I plan to add at least one 680 to when these cards are back in stock again. We will have to see how it works out but hopefully there is a way to make the new card work with this project. :)

Correction: GTX 680 driver for Linux is available now, and it's version number is 295.33.

Reviews like this makes me

Reviews like this makes me wonder if it's not better to go with cheaper cards for compute.

Hi! As Oliver has pointed

Hi!

As Oliver has pointed out in another thread, NVIDIA is working hard on the driver problem that causes the issues with E@H (and any other BOINC GPU project, btw). To summarize, this issue is about GPU tasks that fail in the moment the graphics card switches off the monitor signal (for energy saving purposes). A fix should be available in the next release in a couple of weeks. By that time, you will have many more reviews of the card's performance and maybe even lower prices, so if I had to do this decision, I would wait a bit.

Yes I have re. Seti ! GPU

Yes I have re. Seti !

GPU work units are quicker - down from 3m 40s on the 580 to just 3m 10s on the 680 before any overclock is applied. With a mild overclock I have got this down to about 2m 50s

On the GPUGRID - this does not seem to work properly with the 680 as it kept crashing out with error acemd.win2352. Tried the gpu with the mild overclock and also stock - same results.

Will let the Seti work finish then see if I can grab an Einstein one to try.

OK - any jobs called

OK - any jobs called Gravitational Wave S6 LineVE to Search 1.10 (SSE2) crash out with "computation error" every time.

Not sure why but the error log points to einstein_S6LV1_1.10_windows_intelx6_SSE2.exe causing the issue so might just be a faulty group of work units?

Have detached and then re-attached project but error remains.

Interestingly the computer is running a Gamma-ray pulsar search #10.23 without issue.
