Not sure whether it's working

Hi, I'm very new to BOINC and this project, and I'm trying to figure out whether my installation is working. From the page "All tasks for..." I see that most of the tasks show "Error while computing" and the other ones are "In progress". Is that normal ?
The screensaver seems to work, even though I often see a message about some "unspecified problem with the screensaver" and the numbers shown in the bottom right corner are often weird, like -100%.
Thanks for any possible hint.

Not sure whether it's working

No, that's not normal!

The tasks from your "All tasks for..." list that I've checked all have restarted excessively often. Please go to your Computing preferences and check the setting for "Suspend work if CPU usage is above --- %". If it's at the default of 25%, you should try a higher value or zero, to disable the feature.

Maybe also setting of "Leave tasks in memory while suspended?" to "yes" could help.

Gundolf

OK, thanks. My "Suspend work

Message 99368 in response to message 99367

OK, thanks. My "Suspend work if CPU usage is above --- %" setting was at 25% and I increased it to 50%. If that won't help I'll also try the other option you suggested.

If anyone has some clue about what the cause of this problem might be, I'd be very interested to know.

Also, if some kind of diagnostic tool exists please let me know.

Maybe this message at the SETI boards gives a hint to the cause.

Thanks, increasing from 25%

Message 99370 in response to message 99369

Thanks, increasing from 25% to 50% helped, it seems I just completed a task for the first time.

I also just got a BOINC crash for the first time, but I think it's unrelated. I attach the details below for the records. I'm confident this won't happen often anyway.

You can set "Suspend work if

You can set "Suspend work if CPU usage is above --- %" setting to 0 because boinc runs in idle priority.

I play games while boinc is running and there is absolutely no slowdown.

Thanks, that's interesting,

Message 99372 in response to message 99371

Thanks, that's interesting, I'll definitely try.

By the way, I didn't get any more error like that one.
