It also did way less science. If the Classic client could look for one radiowave in the work units, the present client can find four, while the future client can find twelve. Which would you rather be using, if you are trying to help out the project?
Does a graphics windows appear when you click "Show graphics"? In Boinc Manager, switch to the "Work" tab, select the running workunit and click "Show Graphics".
When you're trying the screensaver and you get the flying BOINC logo, what exactly are the messages in the box? You could manually preview the screensaver and watch what happens, you might get several different message.

Same problem for me : No problemo in loading and running the beta version and the graphic does appear when clicking "show graphics. On screensaver mode, the message I get is "einstein is currently running". Sometimes I only get a black screen with nothing displayed at all.

Is the driver for your graphics card/display adapter up to date? What type of display adapter does you system have?
I have a problem with the screensaver as well. I can see the starmap if I click show graphics. I can even see it when I preview my screensaver. But if I actually leave my computer and let the screensaver come on I simply get a black screen.
Oh and by the way, yes I am using the beta version.

Are there any plans to upgrade the Einstein app with the Beta version which seems to have been around for ages.
Would make it simpler for ATI users. If the problems been fixed why don't they release it???
